Truly, another Sunset on Empire moment.

Children to be banned from blowing up balloons, under EU safety rules

But wait!  There's more...

Whistle blowers, that scroll out into a a long coloured paper tongue when sounded – a party favourite at family Christmas meals – are now classed as unsafe for all children under 14.

This won't be the generation to win back Europe, from the barbarian hoards.  Epic fail, on a continental scale.

Nope... and yup.

How on God's earth does a governmental body get around to ruling balloons too dangerous for children, when the entirety of civilization is quite obviously crumbling around their ears? The mind boggles.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."
