Even after this incident went public, the principal decided not to back down. Reasoning such as this is truly stunning indeed.

Principal Susan Wright released a statement to local media defending the decision.

“These are toys that were commonplace in the past,” she wrote. “However, some parents prohibit all guns as toys. In light of that difference, the school offered to replace the soldiers with another item and the soldiers were returned home with the student.”

“Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,” she stated. “In the climate of recent events in schools we walk a delicate balance in teaching non-violence in our buildings and trying to ensure a safe, peaceful atmosphere.”
"Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer." - Mark Twain

"Let us assume for the moment everything you say about me is true. That just makes your problem bigger, doesn't it?"

Illinois,
Michigan,
Ohio,
and the entire

Did I leave out a state?
As long as what they do doesn't ripple across
their border I just don't care anymore.
Absurdity is not an aberration to them.
Aberration is not an absurdity to them.

Except that, obviously, it doesn't.  For example, try having the opinion that there is nothing wrong with the little plastic army men that boys have played with for, you know, the better part of a century.

Gets back to our whole "words do have actual meanings" gripe.

Ditto!
“My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.

“However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

That was my first thought when reading that sentence, what about respect for my opinion!

I guess they better revisit the MPAA rating for "Toy Story". Perhaps they need to upgrade the rating from "G" to "PG-13-V" or "R".

Fools.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Replaced the soldiers with another item......What other item? Whatever it was, I would make it a point to find fault with it, since we are respecting everybodies opinion.
I'm not always engulfed in scandals, but when I am, I make sure I blame others.
