Fine with me.

It's Z's nuts on the table...as I said his options are few...if the poor dumb corrupt bastard has any wits to him, he'll do whatever he has to in order to just survive this...politically, he's being marginalized, and nobody can say he didn't do himself, certainly nobody in the corrupt compromised Biden-Harris regime could say it because they were neck deep in the corruption!

Chickens are coming home to roost...there is no stopping it.

This...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/trump-berates-zelensky-rude-treatment-bessent-vance-warns-against-badmouthing-potus

...goes without saying.  By saying it I think it reinforcing the Trump plan in totality...and may not have come out had Z not been a dick to Bessent when he visited Kyiv.

And Trump...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/lavrov-praises-trump-saying-nato-led-ukraine-invasion

...is merely stating the obvious...

Trump had written previously on Truth Social, "Biden never tried [to end the war], Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the ‘gravy train’ going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues…"

What has he done to stop the bloodshed?   ::whatgives::

These, and several more like "where did all the money go?" and "when are the elections ever going to happen?" were not allowed to be asked under the Biden-Harris regime...and if anybody raised it the old regime ignored it and the toxic-leftist media complex would jump on those asking smearing them as Russian stooges.  But that's how mentally-stunted corruptocrats roll..

Now, under sane adult leadership we can ask the questions that were suppressed.  Heck, the Biden-Harris folks could not state a coherent exit strategy....they'd just mumble an unrealistic childish "when we win the war" belch!  How?  How could they ever get anything approaching victory without sucking in NATO and triggering Article 5 and rendering the world a smoldering radioactive husk?  ,crickets>

So frack the children, sane non-emotionally unbalanced adults are in charge...the children failed and only caused more deaths, more destruction and most wasted time and money...

Meanwhile, the diaper-soiling children in the EU are once again having spoiled little sh*t meltdowns...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ominous-post-leftist-mep-verhofstadt-says-trump-natos-greatest-threat

That fuglt little Belgian troll should go back under his bridge and suck his thumb!  Trump is an American looking out for America...America doesn't GAFF about your European backdoor bullsh*t anymore, you assholes get yourselves in trouble, then hide behind Uncle Sam and expect to be taken care of and patted on the head for being nice little biys and girls while we foot all bills!

He's two words to get used to really fracking quick - f**k off, manage your own issues with your own neighbors, we're done holding your hands and paying for all your messes, that sh*t is OVER!  Stand on your own two feet fothermucker!

The funny part...their effing BS is only feeding and speeding their umbilical's being cut!  Thanks, dipsh*t!   ::hysterical::

Long ago I saw some documentary on Ukraine. It said that  peasants considered themselves subjects of the Russian empire (some previously of other empires) and IDed with the village they lived in or near. Not sure what they called themselves. Some intellectuals liked to think of  some independent nations apart from the Russian empire. After the Tsar fell three independent nations declared themselves with capitals in Lvov, Kiev, and Kharkhov. They were pulled into USSR by the Reds.

I recall Lenin pushed the idea of a Ukraine to aid the Reds over the whites. Lenin educated more people in a Ukraine language is a few years than in the past 100. Stalin put an end to the pro Ukr movement.
so Lenin drew the Ukr SSR borders to include both previous Ukr independent areas and pro soviet areas and that is why it was controversial even at the time.

Then I saw something about Solzhenitsyn.

1918 nations below.
Quote
Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) – Kyiv

Ukrainian State (Hetmanate) – Kyiv

West Ukrainian People's Republic (WUPR) – Lviv

Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic – Kharkiv

Declared in February 1918 by Bolsheviks, it was centered in Kharkiv, an industrial hub. The republic was dissolved in March 1918 after German-backed Ukrainian forces took over.... A Bolshevik-controlled entity established in February 1918 in the heavily industrialized Donbas region. It aimed to remain part of Soviet Russia rather than the UPR. It was dissolved in March 1918 when the advancing German-backed UPR forces took over.

Odessa Soviet Republic – Odessa

Existed from January to March 1918, with Odessa as its capital, before falling to German and UPR forces. A short-lived Bolshevik republic

Tavria Soviet Republic – Simferopol  as a Bolshevik government

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, the Russian writer and dissident, had complex and often controversial views on Ukraine and Ukrainians. His perspectives evolved over time, reflecting his deep Russian nationalism and opposition to the Soviet regime. Here are some key points from his writings and speeches:

Support for Russian-Ukrainian Unity – Solzhenitsyn viewed Russians and Ukrainians as historically and culturally linked. In his 1990 essay "Rebuilding Russia", he argued against the separation of Ukraine from Russia, considering it an artificial division created by the Soviet government.

Criticism of Ukrainian Nationalism – He was critical of Ukrainian nationalism, particularly when it sought independence from Russia. He believed that Ukraine's historical and cultural roots were intertwined with Russia and saw nationalist movements as driven by anti-Russian sentiment rather than genuine self-determination.

Acknowledgment of Soviet Repression in Ukraine – Despite his opposition to Ukrainian independence, Solzhenitsyn acknowledged the suffering of Ukrainians under Soviet rule, especially during the Holodomor (the 1932-33 famine). However, he resisted labeling it a "genocide," instead portraying it as part of the broader Soviet oppression that affected many ethnic groups, including Russians.

Criticism of Soviet-Era Borders – Solzhenitsyn was particularly opposed to how Soviet leaders, especially Lenin and Khrushchev, had drawn Ukraine’s borders, incorporating regions like Crimea and eastern Ukraine, which he believed were historically Russian lands.

Personal Ties to Ukraine – Solzhenitsyn had spent time in Ukraine during his military service in World War II and later as a Gulag prisoner. He wrote about the kindness of ordinary Ukrainians but remained skeptical of political movements advocating for Ukraine’s independence.

Ha, there has always been a bit of an Old Imperialist in Aleksandr!

Isn't it a bit hypocritical to refer to the Holodomor as just the usual Soviet oppression...

Lacks a bit of relevance to those experiencing it directly!

And I think he is wrong about desires for genuine independence...  I've documented the ancient roots for that in the Rus of Ukraine at the time the Rus in Moscow were abasing themselves to Mongol hegemony (the former much mor rebellious to outside invaders!)...and the people of the West where I have ancestors of Ruthenian heritage the desire for independence has always been there, but subjugation by the Austro-Hungarian Empire and it's middle managers the Poles and then the monolithic Godless Soviets suppressed such things universally across all.

To me it has always been intellectually lazy to lump people together and make sweeping characterizations rather than recognize real differences which make ones agenda more difficult to implement if you paid attention to it...  That and people never oppressed by so many for so long, the next oppressor probably figures the miserable bastards are used to subjugation and are thus not entitled to yearn for anything else...

I got interested in the language issue in Ukraine. The Kiev staff meetings with Ze are conducted in Russian.  Intercepted group phone calls between several Kiev generals were in Russian. Ukrainian was or is not standardized. It is agrarian and rural. Russian is more urban. I heard that Ukrainian was not heard in kiev until recently. Now the govt tries to  make it mandatory.

I learned that written and spoken Russian was standardized long ago and regional accents are small or non-existent. That was surprising given 11 time zones.

IMO there were more advantages to speaking Russian so kids gravitated that way. There is a network effect. "Them as has,, gets." Smaller languages around the world are shrinking.

Youtube feeds me videos related to this. Why people in former Ottoman ruled areas do not speak Turkish? How did the Chinese languages change?

I learned that the written Chinese was standardized very long ago and used by both Mandarin and Cantonese speakers. Cantonese parents complain that their kids speak less Cantonese now. Cantonese was not standardized as mountains in the south meant people on opposite sides spoke differently. The northern spoken language won out.

1. Ukrainian:

In 2022, approximately 4,569 titles were published in Ukrainian, marking a 21% decrease from the previous year.
    chytomo.com
The decline in Ukrainian-language publications is partly attributed to the ongoing conflict in the region, which has disrupted the publishing industry.

2. Russian:

In 2019, Russia published 115,171 new titles annually.

Recent history. Kiev increased shelling  in Feb 2022 and moved troops to the border to invade lPR/DPR. Russia moved first.

https://t.me/ukraine_watch/37545
🇺🇦 The special military operation began exactly 3 years ago. Let’s recall what happened 9 days before it started:

- 15.02.22: The OSCE recorded 41 ceasefire violations as the AFU began heavy shelling of Donbass.
- 16.02: 76 violations.
- 17.02: 316 violations. The most intense artillery shelling in recent years was recorded, and civilians from the DPR and LPR began evacuating to Russia.
- 18.02: 654 violations.
- 19.02: 1,413 violations.
- 20-21.02: 2,026 violations!
- 21.02: Russia recognizes the LPR and DPR, promising military assistance to these republics. The US and the EU condemn Russia and threaten new sanctions for violating the Minsk agreements. Why don’t the US and the EU see the artillery shelling by the AFU?
- 22.02: 1,484 violations.
  - On the same day, the UK, the US, and the EU impose sanctions against Russia for recognizing the LPR and DPR.
- 24.02: Russian troops cross the border.

Between 2014 and 2022, the Ukrainian army grew from 145,000 to 360,000 troops. By the end of 2021, the AFU had concentrated 125,000 troops in the East, preparing to destroy the LPR and DPR and advance to Russia’s borders.

Does anyone still have questions?

#UW_Opinion 🔘 Ukraine tried to win back its losses, but they will leave the casino not only without their money but also with massive debts.

The particular tragedy of Ukraine’s modern history is that at every crossroads since 2013, the country had a more advantageous option than the one it ultimately chose.

In a computer game, you make decisions at key plot points, which then lead you down different story branches. In Ukraine’s case, the invisible hand consistently made choices that inevitably led the country to its current black abyss.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to sign an agreement with the Eurasian Union rather than stage the Euromaidan, which set off a chain of disastrous events.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to end Euromaidan by implementing the opposition’s agreement with Yanukovych from February 21, 2014, rather than igniting a new round of street clashes, entering into a harsh confrontation with Russia, losing Crimea, and facing protests in the southeast.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to make concessions to the protesting residents of the southeast, granting guarantees to Russian-speaking regions and to Russia itself, rather than ending up with an armed conflict in Donbass.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to immediately grant Donbass autonomy within the country, as demanded by the armed "federalization supporters," rather than suffer the Ilovaisk encirclement and be forced to sign the Minsk Agreements.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to implement the Minsk Agreements and reintegrate the DPR and LPR as autonomous regions with special status rather than openly sabotaging them and provoking a direct war with Russia in 2022.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to end the direct war with Russia in the spring of 2022 by signing the Istanbul Agreements rather than engaging in a prolonged war of attrition.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to end the war of attrition by negotiating directly with Russia rather than waiting for Donald Trump to take office in the United States.

🔘 It would have been more beneficial for Ukraine to accept Trump’s first deal, which offered 50% of the revenue from natural resource extraction and infrastructure use, rather than waiting for the second offer, where the U.S. takes 100% of the revenue.

At the time, Ukrainians believed that making concessions and compromises was unacceptable, but each subsequent offer turned out to be worse than the previous one.

A gambler loses a large sum and then spends the whole night trying to win it back. Morning comes, and the player leaves the casino without his clothes, without his apartment, burdened with crippling debts, and with a desire to hang himself.

He forgot that the most important thing in a casino is knowing when to stop.

There is a cognitive bias called optimism bias. People often assess their prospects more positively than they actually are. "An accident is something that happens to others," "There will never be a fire in my home," "I’m not the kind of person who drowns in a river." It’s an important evolutionary mechanism that keeps our psyche healthy. And at the same time, it’s a flaw that leads to a fatal underestimation of risks.

In Ukraine’s case, there is no single entity responsible for all the decisions made. In some instances, these decisions were the result of a coincidence of circumstances.

But regardless of the real causes, the trend is clear: every choice Ukraine has made has only worsened its situation. And so far, this rule has held without exception.

The chances of leaving the casino without debt—are gone.

But it seems they will leave without their clothes as well.

Illustrating yet again it is primarily a Euro issue...

And none of it possible without the Trump plan exposing reality...

Trump didn't fall for the poison pill act of desperation by Z to blame Russia for the war in the UN resolution being discussed...doing so would have made the path to peace harder, and it serves no use...the lessons of WWI should be obvious to anybody with a functioning brain - negotiate a fair peace for all sides, don't make the next war inevitable.

And, bring blunted by Trump at every turn Z is now in his last gambit -

Speaking at the "Ukraine: The Year 2025" forum on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told an audience of all heads of ministries, agencies, and top officials that he's ready to resign as president if it brings peace. He suggested the country be guaranteed NATO membership in exchange for his stepping down.

"I am ready to leave my post if it brings peace. Or exchange it for NATO," Zelensky said in response to journalists' questions, and at a moment he's feeling immense pressure from US President Donald Trump.

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/zelensky-says-ready-resign-sake-peace-nato-membership

He's not getting NATO...and if he wants peace he best honor his pledge...or his hole gets deeper and the fate of his people go deeper with him...

There is a sub reddit AskARussian. Mostly non political nuts and bolts questions about travel, work, etc.  This was about language. Lots of detailed answers.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskARussian/comments/1iwbdid/how_different_is_ukrainian_language_from_russian/
How different is Ukrainian language from Russian?
Language
Is if the difference between English/Spanish for a native English speaker?

No, the closest analogue is the Scots language for an English speaker. Try reading this: "Ah woke up this mornin an keekit oot the windae, but aw Ah could see wis dreich grey cloods hingin ower the toon. Nae chance o' a braw day the day, Ah thocht. Mebbe Ah'll jist bide in wi a guid cuppa tea an a book". That's more or less how it feels when a Russian speaker encounters Ukrainian

Well it's kind of similar with russian and ukrainian. Both can understand each other with some effort, but a lot of meaning has to be implied from context rather than being understood directly.
Besides it's much harder when you have to try and understand it by ear, in real time, those 3-4 seconds start to be a real problem

My father is Ukrainian from small village, where all speak only Ukrainian, but since 30 y.o. (1970) lived in Russia. When he made visit to Ukraine 4 years ago, he just didn't understand Ukrainian TV. Ukrainian language is awful now.

They “borrowed” many words from English and made it sound Ukrainian. For example, helicopter in Ukrainian is “gelicopter” (g is proud the same way as Gaga). It’s weird and believe getting worse. It used to be a nice language but now it’s not even close to that

AFAIK almost no one form rural Ukraine actually speaks Standard Ukrainian, but rather traditional dialects in Western Ukraine (so divergent that it's arguably a separate language in Subcarpathia) & Surzhyk in Central or Eastern Ukraine. I'm curious what the dialect was in his village.

Ukrainian is a Russian language crippled by Polish

What Ukrainian Language? 2020 Ukrainian language? 2015 Ukrainian language? 2010 Ukrainian language?

However, I think soviet-time Ukrainian and modern Ukraininian differ quite a lot. They're changing the literature norm rapidly, so the language inches closer to Polish, and gets less similar to Russian. That has been the trend of the last three decades.

Depends on a Ukrainian dialect (because the most of Russians speak more-or-less same). The western dialects are closer to Polish and the eastern closer to Russian.

It depends on what you consider Ukrainian language, they have some sort of state standard for it, but it is not always spoken variation of the language used in practice. I do not speak it, just had to read some docs, when tried to work with Ukrainians many years ago, those variation which is state standard is often very hard to understand, sometimes simply impossible. I can better understand polish language than Ukrainian. It is also complicated that they have many dialects of it, like west or south west dialects, some people from Ukraine often can't understand one another, so they often use Russian language in that case, adding some Ukrainian phrases to look more patriotic. It is called 'surzhick' and it is often spoken in the East of a country, including some regions which are now Russia.

During siege of Kiev they developed a method to define 'Russian spies', it required to say Ukrainian word for bread as I remember, problem was many people never that word before. I know I guy who finished school with an excellent grade for Uranian language, and he never heard this word when I asked him WTF is that about...

The third point of the Russia – U.S. meeting outcome buried the lead.  The actual maneuver in this meeting was not to cut out Zelensky, but it seems it was to discuss a post-Ukraine environment where the U.S. and Russia could establish a new relationship and cut out China.

Zelensky yelled at U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during his visit to Kiev, the Financial Times reports.

Earlier, Trump said that Zelensky had been "rude" to Bessent and postponed their meeting because Z had "overslept."

Well, I guess they have to call it something...and "New Détente" isn't terrible...kinda fitting when you let it marinate a bit...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/russia-us-diplomatic-choreography-un-shows-their-commitment-new-detente

...bottom line, it's common sense to engage Russia even if you don't always agree on everything...as opposed to the CCP I think you can expect a reasonable good faith effort to be true to negotiated items...and "New Détente" reminds one of Reagan's "trust but verify" caveat...

...the real kicker is the good faith maintaining into the future...Putin isn't getting any younger and there are some high officials I've mentioned before I have concerns over if the take they reigns...as well as risks on our side should Americans be conned into voting for another toxic-leftist disaster...

...but at least this is a sane, common-sense adult effort to resolve differences that if left as is could end life on the planet.

The  "I’d like to buy minerals on Russian land too." line was probably the slap I am looking for...
