LOS ANGELES (AP) — David Brenner, the lanky, toothy-grinned "Tonight Show" favorite whose brand of observational comedy became a staple for other standups, including Jerry Seinfeld and Paul Reiser, died Saturday. He was 78.
Brenner, who had been fighting cancer, died peacefully at his home in New York City with his family at his side, according to Jeff Abraham, his friend and publicist

You don't realize many of these people are elderly, now, until the die. I hadn't seen him since around that time, and to me, he's always 40ish.

I'd completely forgotten about him. And yes, he was funny at times. RIP.

Yeah, he kinda just disappeared off the grid there for a while, but he was old school funny and didn't need to be profane or profound.

I too am always surprised how "old" some of these people are but I think it's because the age in which I encountered them is fixed in my mind.
