Quote
A German Army brigadier general who recently served with NATO forces in Afghanistan is assuming duties as the chief of staff of U. S. Army Europe, the first time a non-American officer has held that position.

... “This is a bold and major step forward in USAREUR’s commitment to operating in a multinational environment with our German allies,” said Campbell.

As far as l am concerned we should leave Europe entirely and flush NATO.  Until then I would refuse any order from any foreigner!

Just more appeasing by the SCoaMF. Keep the Germans happy. After all, they're one of the few productive countries left. He's gonna need another income resource.

Heil Hydra!

Good and thoughtful and amusing reference. But, do any of us truly believe we are better off with those who claim to be duly elected but are CLEARLY not following their constitutional limits?

I don't get the reference, but we're not discussing the "duly elected".  We're discussing the appointment of a foreign national to direct OUR military, a foreign national that not only has no loyalty to our Constitution, but is not required to take the oath of fealty to it, many times as that may be a farce with our "duly elected".

This is bullspit.

Hydra is the fictional force which was funded by Hitler, but craved world domination for itself. Its name is derived from a serpent, which if one head is severed, two will replace it, supposedly becoming stronger then, even in defeat.

Since we are talking about NATO, a german leading US forces, I thought the remark appropriate.

Yes, the comment is fitting Don, all good humor is grounded in truth, that latter day politicos are OK with this shows how far the nation has degenerated.

And I agree with Pan, this is a violation of our law and it should be cause for removal of who approved this (Obama) and whoever obeys a foreign officer.

What is "U.S. Army Europe"? Is this a real entity, or is it just cutesy post-modern word-play meant to demonstrate our commitment to New World Order?

It is whatever they want it to be, but I know this:  there is no such thing as "U.S. Army Europe" because it's a contradiction in terms.

It's leftover detritus from NATO which itself had its roots in WWII.  Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force (SCAEF) in WWII was Eisenhower, when NATO came along the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) was the top dog and traditionally led by an American, the Deputy Commander has traditionally been a Brit (Monty served under Ike) or a German (the first one was in the late 70's under Alexander Haig IIRC).  In time of war allied nations could have mixed units cooperating, but the units themselves would typically be led by an officer of the same nation, but at the general staff level you could have a foreign officer as your superior, if not at war that structure should not exist, but NATO kept operating as if war was still immanent, which for the Soviet period was probably prudent, but once the Soviets collapsed that structure should have gone away and Europe should be responsible for itself...Kosovo et al should have all been an all-Europe affair only.

NATO.   ::)  Don't mend it, end it!
