I think 5 years to be excessive...it was a laser-pointer, it was not mounted on a rifle, no missile launched...wasn't aimed at a commercial passenger vehicile...
A fine of $1k and probation for 90 days, sure...nobody was hurt...anything more seems excessive, but that is the point the Police State wants to send, isn't it?

Agreed. Isn't it interesting that there are hundreds of thousands of unsolved murders in this country but point a laser and you're hunted down and captured before the ten o'clock news is over.

If I were going to commit a crime and I wanted to distract PoPo from conducting Air Ops and tie up personnel on the ground...I would set up remote-controlled laser pointers and set them to buzzing and then execute my nefarious plans. Of course this is all just a hypothetical thought exercise...
