If your state does annual "safety" inspections you may note that the car's odometer reading is recorded. They've been laying the groundwork for this for a long time.

Just had mine done this morning, and YES!, I noticed long ago.  "Warranty" was applicable when it was applicable; now it's just private agency-spying for the government.
