Title: Seattle Thunderstorm and Lightning
Post by: Alphabet Soup on September 08, 2019, 02:37:27 PM
I don't think that I have ever posted a weather thread before - there's seldom much to remark about. Yesterday was quite mild and lightly overcast. I spent the day constructing a 10' x 10' shed to house my wood splitter and yard tools. In the early evening I noticed a few flickers - reflections of lightning strikes. Soon the sky was filled with flashes and thunderclaps.

Please understand that we get lightning storms here - but I have never seen one as intense! It is typical to have a storm and see up to a dozen strikes. This storm featured hundreds and lasted for several hours. Someone posted this video to u-toob - it captures a small part of what we were treated to. Enjoy!

Nice!  I'm a weather junkie.  That looked a lot like our summer here...lots of storms, few gentle...mostly crash n' bang.  At home I pop the garage and have a drink and a cigar and enjoy the show...unless it gets a little too close for comfort.  Love cloud watching too.  At the lake it is even more fun watching stuff roll in, see wind & rain march across the lake.  A lot of times the north side might be getting hammered while we are dry and safe and boaters still tooling about.

Maybe its a Colorado thing.. we don't typically get storms with that much rain or duration -- but lightening? Every half second to  a second and a half while its passing.. depending on the storm that is 5 minutes to 60 minutes.

It rained so hard that it tore a section of my gutter loose. I fixed it yesterday - and just in time cuz we got another gully-washer today.

Flex tape is rapidly outperforming duct tape in my pantheon of things that fix stuff.   ::thumbsup::
