He also has a degree in Philosophy from Cambridge, taught briefly at West Point (English Lit I think).

Contracted Lyme disease not long ago.  Had that supergroup with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson & Waylon Jennings...forget the name...

Kristofferson was renowned for his timeless compositions, including hits like "For the Good Times," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down."

And my all time favorite Kristofferson song,  "Why Me, Lord."

It's said he was working as a custodian at the Grand Ole Opry trying to break into the music biz. He finally leased a helicopter and landed in Johnny Cash's yard to hand deliver some of his song compositions.  It worked and the rest,  as they say,  is history.
