The run of LCS's named after US cities has been broken...
Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced Feb. 10 that the next Independence variant littoral combat ship (LCS) will be named USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10).
The selection of Gabrielle Giffords, designated LCS 10, honors the former congresswoman from Tucson, Ariz. who is known for supporting the military and veterans, advocating for renewable energy ::facepalm:: and championing border security. Giffords recently resigned from Congress to recover from wounds she sustained in an assassination attempt in 2011.

A littoral combat ship (LCS) is a type of relatively small surface vessel intended for operations in the littoral zone (close to shore). It is "envisioned to be a networked, agile, stealthy surface combatant capable of defeating anti-access and asymmetric threats in the littorals."[1] Two ship classes are the first examples of the LCS in the U.S. Navy: the Freedom-class and the Independence-class. LCS designs are slightly smaller than the US Navy's guided missile frigates, and have been likened to corvettes of other navies. However, the LCS designs add the capabilities of a small assault transport with a flight deck and hangar large enough to base two SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, the capability to recover and launch small boats from a stern ramp, and enough cargo volume and payload to deliver a small assault force with armoured fighting vehicles to a roll-on/roll-off port facility. The standard armament for the LCS is Mk 110 57 mm guns. It will also be able to launch autonomous air, surface, and underwater vehicles.[2] Although the LCS designs offer less air defense and surface-to-surface capabilities than comparable destroyers, the LCS concept emphasizes speed, flexible mission module space and a shallow draft.
So she is being named after a ship that gets quite easily out of her depth, can't wander far from familiar subjects, is shallow by design, and is largely empty on the inside, requiring others to be made in any way remotely useful. Yep, thats a Democrat.

It goes witout saying that anything designed to sink should be named after a Democrat.

Calling all Democrats who want to be sainted and immortalized: A bullet to the head is a surefire way to get you there.

I heard they planned to name a Navy ship in honor of mooshelle but when she saw a picture of it she was heard to say
"Does this boat make my navy look big?"

Looks like that fantail has seen a lot of action.
::laughonfloor::

wiki:
The fantail is an overhang at the extreme rear of the ship,
to the rear of the poop deck ...
-
Yeah, I know, so? ::stirpot::
-
Yeah, I know you know.
And like, you know, the fantail
just below the poop deck. Anyway,
are you sure that's not Barry? ::speechless::

New News - General Dynamics is having issues with its trimaran design, looks like Lockheed's version is more durable.

The most serious problem is in the USS Independence, a radical trimaran design. It seems that a "dissimilar metals" situation arose when salt water, the aluminum hull, and some other metals got into close proximity with each other and extensive corrosion resulted. Aluminum hulls tend to corrode more than steel, but the problem became so bad with the USS Independence that, 18 months after entering service, it was sent into dry dock for corrosion repairs and design changes to eliminate the problem.
They need to stick a couple of penny's to the inside of the hull.

And rename the class of ship to Loafer. ;D

Obama's Navy Sec taking heat over retarded ship naming, as he should! Mutha, Evers & Chavez are pretty pathetic examples!
