Title: Eastern Sports & Outdoor show canceled
Post by: Glock32 on January 24, 2013, 01:14:06 PM
This was the big show that earlier announced they were going to prohibit the display of "assault weapons" this year.  Well they just canceled after the NRA and 300+ other organizations boycotted the show.

Here's a list of boycotters. There are big names on the list (Cabela's for instance) so give credit to these orgs for standing upright.  http://www.ydr.com/local/ci_22424721/list-eastern-sports-and-outdoors-show-boycotters (http://www.ydr.com/local/ci_22424721/list-eastern-sports-and-outdoors-show-boycotters)

"mojo" opines that maybe they (Reed Exhibitions) should fire their PR guy. I say why? He looks to be brilliant at wriggling his way out of telling the truth. It's the Events Manager who should be fired!

Wha?  You mean the  ::curtsy4:: males of Obama's America didn't step up and rescue this undertaking, remaking it in their image?

Excellent. Was wondering how this would play out.

And just how stupid and unnecessary was this?

Well, it was completely and totally stupid and unnecessary because there wouldn't have even been any (or hardly any) of the scary rifles on display. Ask any gun dealer. There aren't any to be had at almost any price.

But, that said...the exhibitors and dealers absolutely did the right thing by pulling out. There has never been a more important time or a more important issue (with the obvious exception of abortion) to stand firm on. Now if only we could find a way to be as principled about the budget, the deficit, taxes and spending.

Good for them!  The folks on that boycott list just moved up to the top of my preferred vendor list!

I'm not overly surprised that a British company was a the root of it all.  What does bother me is that large venues like this and SHOT find it necessary to employ a foreign firm to do the show in the first place.

In a capitalist world it would be called creative destruction and the business could look forward to
a better and stronger show next time.
