... it’s causing quite a stir in the "community" ... (http://hotair.com/archives/2013/01/26/video-milwaukee-country-sheriffs-psa-on-self-protection/)
Sheriff David Clarke PSA for Milwaukee County (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8TCx-sM1vw#ws)
The Fox affiliate leaves out a very important part of the PSA, though, which the Journal Sentinel at least mentions:
Clarke urges listeners to take a firearm safety course and handle a firearm “so you can defend yourself until we get there.”
Of COURSE, they did.
So, what's the "stir in the community"?
“If he does not feel he is capable of doing this, and he’s not qualified to take on this role of public safety, he should resign and he should do it today,” said Jeri Bonavia of the non-profit Wisconsin Anti-violence Effort.
Bonavia says Clarke is asking citizens to become vigilantes.
“To issue a blanket statement that people should be out there, arming up, and taking care of safety matters that really law enforcement officials are trained to do, is just irresponsible,” said Bonavia.
The office of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said in a statement: “Apparently Sheriff David Clark (sp) is auditioning for the next Dirty Harry movie.”

Huh, I must have missed that part.

Let's hope Sheriff Clarke stands his ground and uses the attacks on him to further expand his point.
Something niggles though. He is from Milwaukee. He is Black. He is couching his request in language that would suggest he is trying to protest budget cuts as much or more than he is advocating the common sense and inherent right of the 2nd Amendment. I fear that he is using the anti-gun zealots own political demagoguery to leverage a higher budget for his department. In other words, if you cut my budget, the gunners will get what they want.
Still, I'll take it, until and unless he disappoints by apologizing.

He's straying off the plantation.
Good for him. Hope he's legit and not as you fear IDP.
How on Earth could anybody say he's being irresponsible when he tells folks to take a safety course first, to take it upon themselves to ensure their own safety? Even if there were no budget considerations and down-sizing of the PD, the cops simply can't get there quickly enough to do anything except clean up. The whole "When seconds count..." idea is simplu lost on simple-minded libiots, ain't it?

And I thought he was telling his community to man up and take personal responsibility for safety issues.
Upon further translation it's revealed that the sheriff is a raicst. How dare he advocate personal responsibility to the community at large. ::cussing::

I assume the office of Sheriff in Wisconsin is an elected office. This is one reason sheriffs are always better than chiefs of police. The latter are technocratic bureaucrat yes-men with badges. The former are (nominally) accountable to the people they serve. Notice it's been all sheriffs announcing they will not enforce unconstitutional laws to disarm the citizenry? I'm not aware of any police chiefs on that list.
As for the oblivion they quoted...these people simply do not get the concept of personal responsibility at any level. The idea that your personal safety is your priority before it is anyone else's, absolutely alien. It's as alien as the idea that you should have to pay for your own home and food through the remuneration received by performing productive work.

Illustrates many things I despise, the 5th Columnists dominating the MFM and twisting news to fit their sick worldview, the petty hatred coursing through libiot veins for anything that smells like personal responsibility and traditional American values and the 2nd Amendment in particular...

I just heard the Sheriff on with Hannity (most of the segment) and he was not at all apologetic; unless I missed it early on, neither did he mention nor allude to a budget or anything to do with money. He verbalized exactly what you wrote there, IDP.

That's great news. His original statement just made me wonder, is all. I'm glad that he's got this right. Sometimes it sucks being such a cynical sonofabitch.
