Our descent continues unabated...
For more than a year, New York state has maintained a tip line allowing people to report illegal gun owners and collect a $500 reward.
CBS-6 news reported the existence of the tip line on Wednesday. It was previously a “well-kept secret” that received little promotion from state officials or fanfare in the media, according to the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.
A February 2012 press release from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s office first publicly announced the tip line, saying it was designed to “encourage citizens to report illegal firearm possession.”
The press release explained that reward amounts would be based on the usefulness of the information tipsters provide, but did not spell out explicit reward tiers.
Isn't the new world order just great?

Government: pitting citizens against one another for fun and profit.

Hey, it worked for Commies and Nazis, why should our statists be any different?
Can't wait to see how they identify legal and illegal anonymously!

Sometime soon we can expect there to be pressure brought to bear on schoolchildren to report certain behaviors that their parents are involved in. It's the logical for that to happen.
EDIT: One other thing about this story that should be noted is the usual/typical wording of the terms for the reward, "Information leading to an arrest can earn callers up to $500, according to an operator who answered the line when The Daily Caller called." The key words (or rather, the weasel words) in that statement are "up to $500." As most of us learned during the Clinton years, we have to be very, very careful in hearing exactly what is said rather than what we wish to hear and anyone who has received a proper education will know that "up to $500" includes the kingly sum of zero. And "zero" is what the government almost always pays out when it comes to things like this. Not that this practice is exclusive to government entities...the piracy reporting "awards" of the software, film and recording industries employ the same language.
So...there is very little actual reward in being a snitch. Not even thirty pieces of silver.

Absolutely. The Nazis were quite adept at pitting children against their own parents. One of the most surefire ways is to appeal to the vanity and rebellious streak of (especially) adolescents. There were stories from Germany of kids reporting their parents for things, as revenge for being assigned chores like taking out the garbage. In other cases they would threaten to report their parents, in effect inverting the entire family structure where grown adults walked on eggshells around their haughty Hitler Youth sons. All this served the regime perfectly.

So my State Police have entered into Gestapo 'informer' territory, with financial inducements to snitch. Just lovely.
Can we start shooting NOW? If not now, just where do we draw the line?
People laughed when California banned cigarette smoking outdoors, but now look at the rest of the country. Laugh at NY's gun grabbing crap at your peril.

A tip line where anyone can call in a police raid on anyone with nothing more than a flimsy suggestion that someone might have a so-called illegal gun. Nothing different really from any number of totalitarian police states around the world and throughout world history. New Jersey is no different...post a picture of your son legally holding a firearm and you are visited by the police after dark...the result of a "concerned" citizen calling in a tip to the child protective services.
The world has gone crazy and every day there is fresh evidence of the insanity. We elect representatives who restrict and delete our freedoms and liberties while simultaneously spending money that far exceeds revenue. Our president and State Department now regularly insult and cripple our allies while cozying up to our enemies. Our Defense Department shuts down vital missile defense programs and purposefully hurt our troops (most recently eliminating tuition assistance). Our supposed Department of Homeland Security ignores border protection while releasing thousands of illegal aliens with hundreds of them being criminals of the worst sort but still finds the time to harass and embarrass citizens trying to board planes. Our president takes frequent and lavish vacations, spends millions on parties while food stamp usage is at record levels. We are far from the misery of a third world country but who would have thought that such a comparison could even be considered here?
I have said it before...we are, as a country, being judged by God. Judged in the biblical sense where the Israelites were ruled over by cruel and wicked kings and/or invaded, defeated and sent into slavery for decades. A multi-generational life of misery to remind them just Who is in charge, to coerce them to repent and seek forgiveness for their wickedness, their worship of idols. We are at the beginning of this mess and it will get worse and if it even can be corrected it will take generations living in misery before that point is reached. Quite an inheritance we are bequeathing to our children.

We need to start a TOR opertated site to identify the snitches and target them for proper Sons of Liberty action. ;)

It's okay. We will remember who is who.
I remember an SNL skit back in the very early 80's (after Reagan won election) that was a spoof of the television show, "The Fugitive." Instead they called it "The Liberal" and it was about a liberal guy on the run in a conservative world, always being (literally) hunted down for his liberal opinions and beliefs. I remember a musical tune that went with it, "Run, liberal, run..."
Good times, good times.

Found the SNL episode which contains "The Liberal." It was season 14, episode 4 which originally aired on November 5th, 1988. The episode aired just three days before the Bush/Dukakis election and it was so obvious that Dukakis was going to lose in a landslide that no one on SNL bothered to pretend otherwise.
The episode is available on Hulu but the people that put together the video for SNL decided to leave that sketch out. Pity. It was hilarious.
Perhaps it is available on the DVD set. Don't know.
