Title: 'Act of faith' costs track team a win, trip to state championships
Post by: Pandora on May 02, 2013, 12:49:31 PM
... As he was crossing the finish line, Derrick Hayes pointed up to the sky. (http://www.khou.com/sports/Act-of-fath-costs-track-team-its-win-205661221.html)

Quote
His father believes he was giving thanks in a gesture to God.

... Though O’Connor cannot say why the student pointed, he says it was against the rules that govern high school sports. The rules state there can be no excessive act of celebration, which includes raising the hands.

I sat through the "news" vid at the link, hoping to see exactly what the kid did.  You would *think* the "news" station would have found somebody who recorded it, but no.  Shots of everything but.  Oh, and of the four kids on this one team, three are Black and one is White.  Guess who did the dirty deed that got them disqualified?

When common sense is in short supply...this happens. Maybe those teams going to state will " lift their hands" in a show of support, whether they finish 1 st or last.

The first comment nails it in Barack Obama's America

Maybe he should have crossed the finish line and announced he was gay; then he would have been a hero, the president, the first lady and former presidents would have called him to congratulate him

It really isn't complicated.

"Excessive"?!?!?!

Sounds like none is allowed.
I can't stand the "Mind the loser's feelings, now" crowd.
Ya' don't like it, try harder.

Guess he should have just unfurled a Muslim prayer rug and pounded his head on it a few times. The school admins might have had a diversitygasm at that point.

Someone said, if he had only worn a rainbow patch.
Looked for another article or commentary for more info, no luck.
Wouldn't it have been a line judge who made the call?

Either way I am 100% sure it was an asshole who made the call.
