Yeah, that does look like a rock.

Another link in the article shows a squirrel (http://www.ufosightingsdaily.com/2012/12/nasa-almost-makes-historical.html)And gosh. It really does look like a squirrel -  with a lower resolution  link to the same photo on NASA's site. (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/multimedia/pia16204.html)

Animal experiments? NASA afraid of PETA?
