Yelling at kids as bad as spanking
« on: March 05, 2014, 02:12:14 PM »
Both equate to child abuse

There's a "study done at the University of Pittsburgh, argues that those practices" -- yelling, shouting, and raising your voice -- "equate with spanking."

Quote
Chelsea and her circle of friends—other mothers her age—don’t believe in spankings or other forms of corporal punishment; and don’t approve of shouting, either. “Personally, I’m against it; I don’t like to do it, I think it teaches your children to shout back at you,” she told CBS 11 News.

The approach she and her friends use is a bit different. “Just taking the time to be patient and explain and talk with them [children] and help them understand what behavior you expect from them and also exhibiting the type of behavior that you want from them is really what we do,” she explained, adding, “I just try to stay calm in the moment and I try to explain and rationalize and have him sit down.  One of the tools we do is I ask him to sit down and be patient.”

::facepalm::        Her son is 20 months old.

I'm not a parent, although I have had some experience with toddlers/kids, so maybe the parents around here can confirm or deny the findings of this "study".

She's mostly an idiot.
Patience,  yes. Absolutely. Kids deserve it, because theyre gonna get things wrong...

all

the

time.

Even if its the  same issue, on which you've "explained" things a million times. Cripes,  my 11 yo  still  has trouble brushing his  teeth from time to time. Nothing wrong with  getting angry..it's one of many truly  human emotions. Bottling it  up is  worse  in the long run.
But  trying to  ""explain" and "rationalize"to a 20 mo?!?!?! What a maroon!

LOL.  That was my first thought, too; if one is as bad as the other, then just smack the kid and be done with it.

You cannot rationalize with one who does not yet have a rational capability.

Really? Because any time I got yelled at as a kid what it taught me was to STFU and stop doing whatever I was doing.

And failure is guaranteed from the very beginning. To ask makes her the supplicant.  See though, the thing with trendy liberals is that it's not enough for them to indulge in their own little fantasies. They're going to make you do it, too. They're going to demand a total reordering of society along their lines.

To wit:  the relatively new phrasing of "do _________, okay?"  What if it's not "okay" with the kid, since one is asking?

Speaking of Chelsea and her 20-month old son, she's obviously never seen the "Supernanny" show.

eta:  Or thought about how "rationalizing" with her kid is going to avoid this:

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Anything and everything to separate parents from kids, people from individuality, all so the state becomes parent, teacher, confessor, friend and benefactor!  It is beyond wrong, it is pure evil.
