Retribution? I am reasonably sure that it will happen.
1) It's not like organized crime has gone away. Even if most of the players that he was involved with are dead or in prison there will always be those who will still carry a grudge.
2) Even those who aren't directly involved with the people that Sharpton betrayed have an incentive to deal appropriately with him or any other person who betrays mobsters/gang members/etc. Letting an informant skate, especially a high profile one, is bad for business.
3) There is a reason for witness protection programs. He is dangerously naive if he thinks he shouldn't be in hiding.
I think that he will be killed. I don't think that it will happen soon but it will happen. It will happen in a way that is absolutely unmistakeable as to what direction it comes from. It will be gruesome: No open coffin funeral. It will send a message to anyone who thinks they can betray organized crime and get away unscathed. It has to. Because if that message isn't sent then that would mean that organized crime groups don't exist anymore and that would be like trying to deny the existence of gravity. When it does happen you can also bet that MSNBC will blame it on the TEA Party and the gun culture because...MSNBC.
