This one, at least, is funny and has a happy ending for the victim. For the perps, not so much.

I remember one day when I was in the 8th grade when we went to my friend Slim's house. His mom had passed away years earlier and his dad worked so we always knew that the place would be empty - except for his snooty older sister  :D

As we walked up the driveway toward the house I saw a shadow move inside.

"Slim, there's somebody inside!" I whispered.

Slim was called Slim because he had already topped 6'2" by the 8th grade. Instead of pausing, or thinking, or strategizing, Slim raced for the door. Slim's house backed onto a ravine. We played there all the time and knew every contour intimately, but the thieves didn't. They dropped what meager trinkets they had grabbed and sprinted for the woods, falling into the ravine.

Ultimately they got away, but I imagine that they were thoroughly thrashed by the blackberry bushes and stinky from the bog. I have no idea if they chose a different line of work, but they never returned.
