Israel has always had a fair amount of socialism in their recent heritage, from the Kibbutz to the influx of Holocaust survivors, it is only natural for a people constantly under attack to be more knitted together, and their brand of social welfare I don't think is quite comparable to Europe or the US, but I sure hope they don't learn bad habits and de-fang themselves at a time when they'll need all the fangs they can get!
