Oh...I spoke too soon.
This guy looks like he has decided to run for majority leader against McCarthy.
Labrador is a mixed bag. He is most definitely to the right of McCarthy (who is probably more of an Establishment goon than Cantor is) which is good but he is soft on immigration which is less than desirable. Perhaps the best that can come out of this (if Labrador wins) is that McCarthy (Establishment Goon extraordinaire) loses out on a leadership post. McCarthy has all of the same K Street alliances and obligations that Cantor has/had and will sell his mother rather than let a crony capitalist down.
That said, getting votes for majority leader out of GOP congressmen has almost nothing to do with "politics." It's all about obligations and alliances...in other words, who (McCarthy or Labrador) is owed more for helping out other congressmen? Well, that will most definitely be McCarthy since Labrador has only been around for a couple of terms and isn't anywhere near the top of the congressional pecking order. So, even with Cantor's historic loss staring them in the face, telling them that the voters don't want cronyism or Establishment goons in the leadership, a majority of GOP congressmen will probably elect an Establishment goon to the position of majority leader...and that sucks.
But, at least there is a "conservative" willing to make it a contest.

here at the Washington Examiner.
Also, commentary available on this situation from
Hot Gas.Labrador gets a 100% from the
American Conservative Union...McCarthy, 72%
Club For Growth ranks Labrador at 86% and McCarthy at 53%
Heritage ranks McCarthy at 42% and Labrador at 77%
And yeah, McCarthy's ratings are all worse than Cantor's ratings. In come cases they are substantially worse.
