Mississippi River flooding seen from the ISS
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:04:16 AM »
From NASA's website.  The caption reads:

Quote
An Expedition 27 crew member aboard the International Space Station, 220 miles above Earth and the Mississippi River, captured this May 12 still photo, clearly showing the outlines of some heavily flooded agricultural fields on the Missouri side of the river. The center point for this 400-mm frame is 36.27 degrees north latitude and 89.57 degrees west longitude (north of Caruthersville, Mo. and west of Ridgely, Tenn.). North is towards the lower right corner of the image.

We are so far past and beyond the “long train of abuses and usurpations” that the Colonists and Founders experienced and which necessitated the Revolutionary War that they aren’t even visible in the rear-view mirror.

Some areas are not expected to see crest until sometime this week too...

 ::speechless::

People have to heed warnings and take proper action.

Farmers are already upset over engineers flooding their land, many lawsuits to come...

How will insurers/insured weather this?

I am always amazed how/why frequently flooded areas are rebuilt without any thinking ahead to the next flood...

 How you can live on a flood plain and below the high point is beyond me.They should all be above high water mark by at least 2 feet.And if they don't do it don't insure them.

During a weekend interview he said he didn't [believe] in government insurance; elucidating, he said those in areas like floodplain (prone to storm damage) the government shouldn't insure.

Agree wholeheartedly.  Backwhen at Katrina got into it with Banano and said that was the only way to go.  No eminent domain either.  Let it all go.

Exactly.  Because "the government" doesn't insure anybody -- WE DO.

That requires a level of personal responsibility that Leftists have all but driven out of the gene pool.  But right is right and y'all are right!
