Interesting comment from France's socialist party:

“The news from New York tonight struck us like a thunder bolt. I am, like everyone else, shocked/astounded. I ask that we wait for the facts, respect the presumption of innocence and maintain decency,” the party said.

Unless France has changed up their legal system recently they must be referring to the US presumption of innocence. France lives under the Napoleonic Code which presumes guilt to those charged.

Nevertheless, he will be presumed guilty by the French public and that pretty much torpedos his chances at high office there.

You also gotta love the quote from the wife:

“I do not believe for a single second the allegations leveled against my husband.  I do not doubt his innocence will be established.  I appeal for restraint and decency,” Sinclair said.

This from the wife of someone known throughout France as "the great seducer." She must have a prenup that specifies she is to act like a gullible dupe during any and all such events.

I thought this was a straightforward case of attempted rape, but I saw something today that made me go hmm:

The Obama administration strongly signaled it was time for the International Monetary Fund to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn as its chief, indicating that he can no longer be effective in his job.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, responding to a question in New York Tuesday night, said Mr. Strauss-Kahn—jailed since Saturday on sexual-assault charges—is "obviously not in the position to run the IMF."

In his first public comments on the matter, Mr. Geithner called for more formal board recognition that the IMF's No. 2 official, American John Lipsky, who has filled in since Mr. Strauss-Kahn's arrest, will continue in the role for an interim period.

Mr. Geithner's comments represented an effort to nudge Mr. Strauss-Kahn toward stepping aside, while boosting the clout of Mr. Lipsky in the interim role.

Geithner is as slimy as they come.  Does anybody know anything about this Lipsky fellow?

Re: Lipsky, looks like your typical Stanford/Wall Street guy.  Thin resume, but heavy in Govt, so I can only assume he's true blue bureaucrat.  Cannot find any Obama connections, maybe he and Turbo Timmy crossed paths before, on NBER or something.

So on its face it doesn't look like motivation to snare DSK with a swallow, but if all they wanted was him out and anybody but him in, it is possible.

Let's see if more comes out on Lipsky.
