This is what motivated individuals are capable of doing to protect their property, investment, and livelihood. Compare with what happened in New Orleans, all those people who were basically paralyzed by dependence on the almighty government to come and take care of everything for them.

The Left are trying to make everyone into those New Orleans victims, reduced to scrawling "Help Me" on a rooftop. But these pictures from the floodwaters in Mississippi demonstrate the true constitution of real Americans.

I think I mentioned on another thread we live a stone's throw from a river.  Two of our neighbors' property actually goes right up to the banks. A handful of years ago the river flooded.  We went down to help fill sandbags as did many kids from the high school.  They had pumps set up and my husband gave them some of ours. The one house closest to the river looked just like those houses surrounded by a mound that cut off the house.  The house survived although water did seep into the first floor.  The other didn't get any water inside.  I'd never seen anything like it. I won't forget the desperateness that hung in the air but we just kept filling the sandbags.

Someone needs to publish a book, "Where's Obama?" where they have pictures of various disaster sites in the US and you have to try and find Obama in the pic. It would be a real hard puzzle to solve in some cases.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

Amen.

What is the opposite of institutional dependence?

Rugged individualism.

We took a trip to Baton Rouge yesterday and had to take I-10 across Butte La Rose and Sherburne. They've really got some water there. And it's not supposed to crest until Monday or Tuesday.

Oh man, and I don't know about other areas, but this is like the third day in a row where we are just getting deluged up here with rain...and hail and other crap...but the Mississippi is going to be sending down a lot more water!

I hope those who can and should get to high ground do so!
