From the what it's worth --- in 1790 - Congres authorized the Sec. of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton's proposal to build ten cutters to protect the new nation's revenue.  [Stat. L. 145, 175].  Alternately known oa the system of cutters.  Revenue Service, and Revenue-Marine this service would officially be named the "Revenue Cutter Service [12 Stat. L.,639] in 1863.  The cutters were placed under the Treasury Department. This date marks officially the recognized birthday of the United States Coast Guard.  [The longest continuous sea going branch of our military.

Pulled away before finishing--- August 4, 1790 -- 230 years old --- Proud to have been a 'very' small part of this branch.

All gave some -- Some gave all    Humbled to be one of the 33 original members of the Coast Guard Honor Guard, started in 1962.

I salute your service, Rusty   ::USA::

Longest continuance claim though is technically correct from Revenue Cutter to Coast Guard, US Navy established 10/13/1775 by the Continental Congress (primarily John Adams) did disband shortly after the war, but was re-constituted with 6 heavy frigates by the Navy Act of 1794,  the Navy still existed it just didn't have any capital ships for about 10 years.
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.
