Your Childhood's soundtrack
« on: March 20, 2021, 11:09:02 AM »
Do you know the names Yvette Blais and Jeff Michael? How about Ray Ellis or Norm Prescott?  Maybe you should - they wrote nearly all of the soundtrack and background music used by Filmation from 1968 to 1982  under those pseudonyms. If you watched Saturday Morning cartoons during those years  - you know this music.

What show(s) do you remember this theme from?

Take a look at what he was involved in :

Um.. wow you two are old aren't ya?
 ::)

But no one is EVER too old for toons.

The animated Star Trek was long since gone fomr the airwaves when I was born..
but , that  score is burned into my head - it must have been used in 8 shows I watched as a kid.

But that probably also means you weren't subjected to Schoolhouse rock either.
If it weren't for those toons I would probably have been beyond saving.
And yes, damn right, I made my kids watch em, and as a result - inoculation.

One of the nice things about being a born a little later is I saw all of those shows as reruns as a kid too - all except Fireball and Secret Agent Man ( I can't find what show that was attached to, but I know I have heard the song somewhere)  Fireball looks fun ... I may have to pull that one from the cloud and give it a watch

Saturday Morning was an event for my generation growing up.. but I guess that didn't get to be a thing till the sixties..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday-morning_cartoon

But looking through what was shown then in the 60s - I saw most all of those too at one point or another..

I was born in the early 50's so was treated to the golden age of cartoons, the "Merrie Melodies" and "Loony Tunes" (Warner Brothers) of the previous generation as they came to the boob toob. We moved a lot as kids so cartoons and comic books were my friends.

We were the audience treated to the second wave of animation - The Flintstones and The Jetsons (Hanna Barbera), Mighty Mouse and Heckle and Jeckle (Terrytoons). I remember the cartoon industrial complex going into full production dumping half-assed schlock in the mid 60's and I found better things to do. My favorite cartoon graphics during my adolescent years were The Dark Side and Gahan Wilson.

I revisited cartoons with my kids but found them pretty pathetic. I watched The Simpsons and Family Guy and "got it" but quickly tired of them. I prefer Hank Hill and even Beavis & Butthead or Ren & Stimpy.

Yes, I have a warped sense of humor.

Captain Kangaroo, Wonderama (w/Bob McAllister), Speed Racer, TOBOR the 8th Man, Space Ghost, Johnny Quest, Cool MacCool, Deputy Dawg, Quick Draw McGraw, Gigantor, Secret Squirrel, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Commander McBragg, Tennessee Tuxedo, Dick Tracy, Spider Man, The Mighty Hercules (with Newt & Daedalus), Yogi Bear, Flntstones & Jetsons . . .

Additionally Scooby Doo & H.R. Puffenstuff - but was growing up (11-12) & favoring tree-forts, wading through streams & shooting a BB gun, CO2 pellet gun & a 22 in the woods. I'm the oldest of 4, born in '59 . . . so there are remnants of what my younger siblings were watching

Fireball XL5 and Thunderbirds Are Go were similar.
When I watch the SpaceX Falcon's landing they look like the SciFi I used to watch i.e. fake.

I remember both...through my brother...who dominated our old black & white boob tube.  He also watched Mr. Rogers.  Did y'all see Casey JOnes & Roundhouse Rodney?  That may have been just local, I dunno...good lunch hour watching.

I liked all the old cartoons...Tom & Jerry, Foghorn Leghorn, Jetsons (still pissed science hasn't given me my flying saucer yet!), Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner...

Later, we would fight over the channel, he was hooked on Dark Shadows which I thought stupid.  Star Trek came on as father got home...dinner resulted in the TV off, father's rules...so half a show is all I ever got!

Then later the hay day...Monty Python, Don Kirshner's...later the original Sat Nite Live, Benny Hill.  Carson was good if Rodney, Rickles, Hacket et al were on.
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.

I didn't watch cartoons. Thought they were dumb. My brothers loved them.

I didn't care for "kid's" shows.

Hated Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, etc etc.

Never a tv addict but did watch my mom's soaps and Perry Mason reruns...

I know I was weird.
