A company called AptiQuant, a self-proclaimed "world leader in the field of online psychometric testing," published the results of an online study that tested the IQs of users and grouped the results according to which browser respondents used.

The study found that users of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera were all slightly above average in IQ test results, but Microsoft Internet Explorer users tended to be lower on the IQ scale.

Everybody here uses Firefox, right?

After that, if anybody didn't, would they say so?   ::)   :D

I haven't used IE in years, except for the very few occasions where I have to use an ActiveX component. It still has a certain utility in corporate intranet environments. I would wager, though, that the IQ correlation has less to do with the specific mechanics of different web browsers and more to do with disinclination toward trying something new and different, instead just using the one already setup -- path of least resistance.

Okay, before things get out of hand, please note the disparaging tone taken toward the study author and also that it was an "online study" whatever that means.

I'm just having a laugh at the expense of IE and MS users but I take this "report" as seriously as I did the ones that said that oatmeal lowers cholesterol. Which is to say, not at all.

Safari here.

And "online studies" are probably as meaningful as "online polls".

There should be a disclaimer, "For entertainment purposes only."

I can't really get into Safari either. I'm working with a client who wants an iPhone app developed, so I've been using my MacBook Air as a development platform and I still prefer Firefox on it. Over the past few months I've developed a liking for Opera as well. I especially like Opera's Speed Dial. I have yet to even try Chrome. I heard it contains a bunch of that Google "don't be evil" spyware.

One thing I have noticed is a definite convergence in browser design and layout. The latest versions of Firefox, Opera, and IE all have a similar drop-down button that acts as a starting point for everything.

At work they use IE exclusively - they even block other browsers so that they don't work.

Wait til I spread this around!

Print up a few copies of the article and tape them up anonymously around the office. That kind of thing is always fun.

I despise Google so Chrome is a non-starter with me.  Firefox mostly but I like the bigger view and ease of use of Opera for forums!
