Let's stipulate that those 40% really are stupid, and not merely craftily attempting to prolong their meal at the government teat. You've surely heard the old saying: "Ignorance can be cured; stupid is forever."
Our educational and welfare systems have been in the business of manufacturing mindlessness for some forty years, at least. Their products will not die off terribly soon, Our only chance to return the country to its proper estate is to see that they're not replaced. But how?
I am reminded of the old "How to be an Evil Overlord" Internet gag, which ended with "give all my subjects free unlimited Internet access." There may have been some truth there. But beyond that, it's vital that we end the welfare state, root and branch, including public education.
If that doesn't work, we can always considergenuinely harsh measures, such as 24-hour-a-day reruns of Survivor, American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
