I sure as hell hope that mailbox has some deep footings, or it'd make an awfully attractive score for some thief.

Dang if it isn't!  Good idea, I'd say; as less-outstanding mailboxes are targets for all kinds of mischief, this one bears watching.

BTW, did you know that although you purchase and install your mailbox, the Feds, under the aegis of the USPS, claims ownership of it?

The USPS doesn't pay for it though, so the shape, it would appear, is still our choice...for now...

As for bar-b-que, man, I'd like to see (and smell) the smoke coming out of that barrel!

I would put it a little differently. They claim jurisdiction, not ownership. With jurisdiction comes the final say on where & how it's used. With ownership comes responsibility to maintain. They don't do that - they tell you to keep in repaired or they condemn it and won't deliver mail to it.

...just sayin  ;)

If I had that mailbox I'd get rid of it because of all the people stopping and taking pictures with it to much company for my taste.
