1999 CNN report on Newt Gingrich’s exoneration by the IRS over ethics charges

1999 CNN Report On Newt Gingrich's Exoneration By The IRS Over Ethics Charges

This just adds credence to what Mark Levin said yesterday, that the Democrats were just trying to get him removed from office because he brought the Republicans back into power.

Don't miss the Levin link:
"Those ethics complaint were filed by *David Bonier a real pinko hard left nut job."
Mark Levin blasts Christie for parroting old left-wing ethics propaganda against Newt

*Known at the time as Chuck Schumer's pet Yorkie.  -heel biter-

ETA: More

More from Rush on the establishment, and money and the gNewt, wooooo.  Twenty five years of bottled up anger

Here is Rush’s monologue that he opened the show with, saying that the GOP establishment are in a full blown panic over their candidate loosing so badly to Newt. In fact, Rush says that they are saying that Newt only won because he is beating up the media. Rush says that isn’t true, but rather it’s because Newt is articulating conservatism as he takes on the MSM. Which is exactly what I was saying earlier.

Here’s his full monologue: Link

Don't forget that the Left was apoplectic over the Right being able to remove the former Speaker of the House, Jim Wright, over ethics violations. Bonier used the same tactics as the Left in Alaska against Sarah Palin: Filed repeated false, unfounded allegations of ethics violations hoping the public would become weary of the bickering and dump the politician.

Quote
The only reason that Rep. David Bonior and other Democrats filed 75 ethics charges against Speaker Gingrich in the first place is because Newt filed and forced former Democrat Speaker Jim Wright to resign in 1988. The whole ethics violation farce was about nothing but revenge. Bonior and the Dems. wanted revenge for Jim Wright and for losing the House in 1994 and 1996.

Read this short article for perspective. This was all about payback, baby. And it pisses me off that Romney is bringing this up to attack Newt rather than using it to slap Democrats for abuse of the Ethics Process.

Yup, double payback.  I'm sure the Dem's want to be reminded of this, else they wouldn't have brought this up.  Oh, wait, did Romney bring this up, or the Dem's?  Does it matter?  Is there a diff?
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.

A bit longer piece/explanation of the ethics charges (for the record):

Good find.

[blockquote]

The Gingrich case was extraordinarily complex, intensely partisan, and driven in no small way by a personal vendetta on the part of one of Gingrich's former political opponents.
...
And then, after it was all over and Gingrich was out of office, the IRS concluded that Gingrich did nothing wrong.  After all the struggle, Gingrich was exonerated.
...
There's no doubt the complaint was rooted in the intense personal animus Jones felt toward Gingrich.  In 1995, I sat down with Jones for a talk about Gingrich, and without provocation, Jones simply went off on the Speaker.  "He's just full of s--t," Jones told me. "He is. I mean, the guy's never done a damn thing, he's never worked a day in his life, he's never hit a lick at a snake. He's just a bulls--t artist. I mean, think about it. What has this guy ever done in his life?…Gingrich has never worked. He's never had any life experience. He's very gifted in his way at a sort of rhetorical terrorism, and he's gifted in his way at being a career politician, someone who understands how that system works and how to get ahead in it, which is everything that he has derided for all these years. So I think he's a hypocrite, and I think he's a wuss, and I don't mind saying that to him or whoever. To his mother -- I don't care."

At that point, Jones leaned over to speak directly into my recorder.  Raising his voice, he declared: "HE'S THE BIGGEST A--HOLE IN AMERICA!"

Jones and his partner in the Gingrich crusade, Democratic Rep. David Bonior -- they had been basketball buddies in the House gym -- pushed the case ceaselessly.  Under public pressure, the Ethics Committee -- made up of equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats -- took up the case and hired an outside counsel, Washington lawyer James Cole, to conduct the investigation. [/blockquote]

The more information about Newt comes out the more it appears the anger and fear directed toward him is caused because he is effective.

And because he takes no guff.

He paid the House's "ethics fine" of $300K, 4000 days later he was exonerated by the IRS; looks like some House members owe him some money.  Unknown where he goes to get his reputation back.

I'm not all in the tank for Newt, but I hate an injustice.
