IL Nuke Plant Troubles

"The steam contains low levels of tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen, but federal and plant officials insisted the levels were safe for workers and the public."

"Mitlyng said officials can't yet calculate how much tritium was released. They know the amounts were small because monitors around the plant didn't show increased levels of radiation, she said."

Know, don't know, sensors working, not working...yeah, officals are all over this one!

"In an unrelated issue last April, the commission said it was conducting special inspections of backup water pumps at the Byron and Braidwood generating stations after the agency's inspectors raised concerns about whether the pumps would be able to cool the reactors if the normal system wasn't working. The plants' operator, Exelon Corp., initially said the pumps would work but later concluded they wouldn't."

Yeah, OK.

Another reason to steer clear of IL, like I need more reasons!

Will it get Chicago??? Will it get Chicago???
 ::popcorn:: ::praying::

(Apologies to any fine members who may live near Chicago - but then if you do, I'm sure you understand)
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Jeesh, now nuke plant north of SD!

"A small quantity of radioactive gas leaked inside one of the buildings at San Onofre nuclear power plant north of San Diego, according to a spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission."

"The spokesman said the radiation levels were 'barely measurable,' but the plant was shut down as a precaution."

Uhh huh...

"Officials say the radiation leak likely occurred in the steam generator tubes of San Onofre’s reactor #3. The steam system, which is supposed to be shielded from exposure to radiation, was replaced in December 2010. Alexander said plant officials will be conducting an investigation into why the new steam tubes leaked."

OK then, aging plants, rotten replacement parts...we are starting to see a pattern to our decades of neglect in our infrastructure and all too much can be laid at the feet of bleeping democrats and the extremists eco-freaks and nuke/oil/gas-haters that comprise their diseased constituency!

Can "Wyatt's Torch" be far behind?   ::whatgives::
