David Brooks says we need a government program to force the upper class and lower class to live together.

I doubt Murray would agree, but we need a National Service Program. We need a program that would force members of the upper tribe and the lower tribe to live together, if only for a few years. We need a program in which people from both tribes work together to spread out the values, practices and institutions that lead to achievement.

If we could jam the tribes together, we’d have a better elite and a better mass.

Where have I seen this play out before?  Oh yeah, I remember: it's a scene in Dr. Zhivago where multiple families have moved into Dr. Zhivago's house in the city, and they're burning books and furniture for heat.

And David Brooks is supposed to be a conservative.  He's GOP establishment, perhaps. NOT CONSERVATIVE!!

It never ceases to amaze me (that's a figure of speech, because I stopped getting amazed a long time ago) how the liberal mind believes that basic human nature and iron laws of human interaction can be engineered for a positive outcome without a greater negative consequence. They can witness the failures of that kind of thinking over and over and over again, and they still think they can force square pegs in round holes.
