What if the part of Bella was played by Jackie Chan?

I'm embarrassed to admit I watched one of the twilight movies. Never really knew the concept, just told the first one was good and I should go see one......which I did and I'll never get those two hours of my life back. Horrible....just horrible.

All I could think of is what a loser this girl must be......when her choices for a mate hinge  between a vampire who appears to have low blood sugar and a werewolf. Ive actually wiped my mind of the movie and all I really remember is the girl sitting in her room.

I feel so dirty.

The movies are bad...mrs. trapeze made me sit through one and I haven't forgiven her or figured out a way to get those hours of my life back...but the books apparently are far worse.

I found a book review online. There are certainly thousands of book reviews but this one was pretty good...

Quote
Twilight is the story of the so-called “average” new girl Bella Swan (Ha, ha, get it? Beautiful Swan?), who finds herself as the object of not one, not two, but a total of five boys’ romantic designs (because she’s so “plain”, see?). The most important of these is the mysterious, hilariously-Byronic Edward Cullen. Bella plays the pitiful damsel in distress a few times and after 200 pages of thinly written suspense, we learn that Edward is in fact a vampire. Never fear, though, because Bella’s “Adonis-like” admirer is no Nosferatu. Instead, he and his vampire family are so-called “vegetarian” vampires, feeding off of animals instead of humans and inexplicably attending high school (during lunch periods they buy trays of food and stare at each other so that Bella can conveniently get a glimpse of Edward from across the cafeteria). The first novel deals with Bella and Edward’s romance and is capped off by a hastily tacked-on plot designed to shove Bella into the damsel in distress role yet again so that her vampire lover can save her.

The reviewer even did a follow up piece after being pilloried by fan girls...

How to Write a Bestseller Just Like Twilight:

1. Abuse the thesaurus (correct word usage optional; purple prose is a must). If you want to 'spice up’ your writing so that it sounds just like Meyer’s, a handy thesaurus is key. Then you too can write glorious and dazzling (and dazzlingly glorious) passages like the following:

Quote
He lay perfectly still in the grass, his shirt open over his sculpted, incandescent chest, his scintillating arms bare. His glistening, pale lavender lids were shut, though of course he didn’t sleep. A perfect statue, carved in some unknown stone, smooth like marble, glittering like crystal.

If you do not have at least three modifiers* for every noun, you’re doing it wrong. Some authors like George Orwell (1984, Animal Farm) have rules like “Never use a long word where a short one will do” and “If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out”, but since Stephenie Meyer is apparently the golden standard for writing young adult literature these days, it’s probably best to ignore Orwell and follow her example instead.
* Bonus points if you use the same modifier multiple times in close proximity of one another. Good examples of words to use this way include “chagrin”, “murmured”, and “chuckled”.

Funny. And true, too, I guess. I would never waste my time actually reading this tripe.

My earlier "really?" was sarcastic in that I've read that the books are poorly written.  I guess they appeal to readers who want to feeeeel and not think much when they read.

My daughter read them because her friends were reading them and she wanted to see what the fuss was about.  She said they weren't well written at all.  She hasn't seen the movies and probably hasn't thought about them since she read them.  She's reading Dante's Divine Comedy now and loves it so reading an occassional piece of junk like Twilight has little effect on her.  But unfortunately, there's a whole culture out there that thinks Twilight and similar books ARE good.

Yup - I'm a Twilight hater. I was *FORCED* to watch one of the installments (Had to accompany a teen to the movie). It was the worst piece of drivel I've had to sit through in a while.

heh.

I enjoy a story about original characters weaved into the events of history.  But taking a real historical figure and making him a vampire hunter especially Lincoln strikes me as silly.

Ok....another confession. My family were all out of town...and with nothing to do......I took in the vampire killer, Abe Lincoln.

I'll admit this piece of revisionist history is much better and more creative than anything Michael Moore attempted. Who knew the civil war was a battle between vampire and man.

I will NOT be going to see the final movie or any other sparkly vampire movie. I don't care what mrs. trapeze says...she can go see it with her friends.

And who knew that that is why Abe was so good with an axe!

And at least this movie is obvious revisionist fantasy...as opposed to the purely revisionist BS pumped out by MM and taken by libiots as the gospel truth...   ::)
