Earth Hour: A Dissent

The whole mentality around Earth Hour demonizes electricity. I cannot do that, instead I celebrate it and all that it has provided for humanity.

Earth Hour celebrates ignorance, poverty and backwardness. By repudiating the greatest engine of liberation it becomes an hour devoted to anti-humanism. It encourages the sanctimonious gesture of turning off trivial appliances for a trivial amount of time, in deference to some ill-defined abstraction called “the Earth,” all the while hypocritically retaining the real benefits of continuous, reliable electricity.

Next time you ask even a conservative about why he/she is so bent on the environment ask them if they think that the Almighty would have put us one an extremely fragile ball of dust that couldn't take mankind spreading his wings and his culture. I know in my heart that he gave us dominion and free choice which means to take care of(not polluting) and that we may use the planet to better ourselves under his guidance.

I'll go a step further and say that I believe God placed the conditions and ingredients on earth for the natural creation of crude oil for the specific purpose of the betterment of the human condition through petroleum products. It is too perfect a resource for too many wonderful things for it to not be here specifically for us to use. It's our responsibility to use it wisely, as it is our responsibility to use all resources wisely. It has taken us time and effort to discover that wisdom, and now that we have it, those who would control us through energy policy have simply shifted the debate from a pollution-management standard to a standard of eliminating any by-product whatsoever. They can kiss my ass.

Hammer - meet nailhead.  I have thought that about oil so many times I can't count.  It seeps out of the ground and the ocean floor, we can't eat it, so we've put it to numerous other constructive uses, for which it's near-perfect.  If God hadn't provided its formation, we'd have had to invent it.  What the hell ever moves a large cohort believe it is to be put off-limits for spurious reasons - "it's dirty" is one I've heard recently - is beyond me, save for the goal of forcing our way of life into oblivion. 

Everything is "dirty"; every creative endeavor, every process - natural and manmade - engenders what some would call "dirt", i.e. waste, right down to the most basic level of breathing and eating.  We've learned to deal with it as normal ... until now.

These people tout alternatives like solar are wind power because they are "clean" and create no carbon emission. But they completely ignore the infeasibility of implementing these sources on a wide scale. They are inefficient in both energy production and land-use, obtrusive, single-purpose, and expensive as hell.

As soon as someone comes up with an energy source as efficient, abundant, versatile, and cost-effective as fossil fuels, I'm right on board. Until then.... *poof*

They may be "clean" in terms of use, but they certainly are not in terms of manufacture and maintenance.  Solar panels, in particular, generate a lot of particularly toxic waste to make.  Wind turbines cannot be manufactured using wind power, so the energy used to create them is, in effect, "wasted".

There's only a handful of places on Earth where "alternative energy" can even begin to be competitive with conventional sources. One of the only places I can think of is Iceland, which has great geothermal potential. Of course, the trade off is that they basically live on an active volcano.

Ah yes, I forgot about hydroelectric. I forgot about it because it is, for all intents and purposes, a dead technology. The enviro-marxists are busy tearing down dams, let alone permitting any new ones. Why have we allowed ourselves to get into the situation where loudmouthed environmentalists get to set the agenda and decide what is and is not permitted?

Meanwhile, China's Three Gorges Dam will be capable of generating over 22 gigawatts and impounds so much water that it actually shifts the Earth's axis slightly. The impoundment will permit seagoing ships to navigate 1,500 miles inland!

It just makes me want to celebrate the modern industrial age and the benefits that God bestowed upon us that he so conveniently made abundant upon the earth, and for which he gave us the skill and knowledge to extract and utilize...

Lights on?  Check.

TV/Raidio's on?  Check.

Motors running?  Check.

Brush burning?  Check.

Leftnut eco-zombies outraged?  I certainly hope so!

I like hockey and the NHL and a few years back my team (Predators) had a "earth day" game where we started at 5pm instead of the traditional 7 pm start...It was supposed to save energy because the lights wouldn't burn as long....I know, the logic doesn't work.

So being the earth friendly person I am, I petitioned my team to just shut down operations, along with shutting down the NHL, to save the planet. I must have hit a nerve because I received a call from the team.... Seems they understood the hypocricy.......But I proceeded to hammer the point of the hypocricy of holding such an event, because it cost the team revenue and it really wasn't "earth friendly".... I respectfully asked what other groups would we be pandering that costs the team money..... gay pride day? National lesbain hockey day?

I don't think they were amused....but we haven't had another earth day either.
