California Votes For High Speed State Bankruptcy

In case it needed to be actually proven, you can't fix stupid.

LINK

Quote
California lawmakers approved billions of dollars Friday in construction financing for the initial segment of what would be the nation's first dedicated high-speed rail line connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The state Senate voted 21-16 on a party-line vote after intense lobbying by Gov. Jerry Brown, Democratic leaders and labor groups.

The bill authorizes the state to begin selling $4.5 billion in voter-approved bonds that includes $2.6 billion to build an initial 130-mile stretch of the high-speed rail line in the Central Valley. That will allow the state to collect another $3.2 billion in federal funding that could have been rescinded if lawmakers failed to act Friday.

And then this...

Quote
One dissenter, Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, said public support had waned for the project, and there were too many questions about financing to complete it.

"Is there additional commitment of federal funds? There is not. Is there additional commitment of private funding? There is not. Is there a dedicated funding source that we can look to in the coming years? There is not," Simitian said.

I sure am glad I don't live in such a stupid, stupid place.

The only people stupider than the voters who elected them are the morons who actually buy these bonds.

California is the France of the USA.

I'm convinced that this is true and I'm convinced that that is the reason why they want a high speed train...so they can be more like their idol.

Cheese. Wine. High Speed Rail. Unsustainable spending.

Very French-like.

Hitler liked the trains too but for another reason.

Here's praying they run the line following the San Andreas fault. Bright side, there will be plenty of new work(job security) repairing the line after each quake. ::laughonfloor::

And the kalifornicator's descent into madness accelerates.

I loved the insertion of the Simpson's Monorail sketch - so much so that I'm adding it in here:

It'll get the remaining malcontents foolish enough to still be there to the camps that much quicker.  I'm sure that's the plan...

1. Vote for tax-funded construction project.
2. Limit contracts to union shop contractors.
3. Reap political donations from union dues.
4. Hope state does not go broke before process is repeated.
5. Repeat . . .
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living
are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

6. File bankruptcy, screw the union workers and watch the weeds grow on the tracks and rust grow on the equipment.

7. Decorate lamp posts.
