Being the strict traditionalist I am, I am surprised, but I like it.

His version is easier for us with no pipes to sing and that's the point -- we ALL join in and SING IT!

Kinda my take as well.  I was a bit circumspect before I hit the play button, 99.9% of the time I hate it when things go off-script with the national anthem, but I have to say I like it.  And the band seemed to be really into doing it and the background video was nice.

Regardless of my opinion of tradition vs newfangled, I'm impressed that young men are moved to use their talent for patriotic and righteous reasons in an industry that actively promotes the opposite.

Plus, a lead singer with a hand grenade mic-stand grip is cool.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

- Thomas Jefferson
