Explosive Fed. Mandate Killing Thousands of Red Snapper
« on: February 20, 2013, 07:05:51 PM »
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) A federal mandate to remove old, abandoned oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico is blowing up a lot more than just the rigs.

Undercover video obtained by Local 15 shows thousands of pounds of dead fish, mostly red snapper, floating to the surface after one of the controversial demolitions in the Gulf.

“Good Lord,” marine scientist Dr. Bob Shipp said, when Local 15 showed him the video. “As a scientist, I think it’s abominable.”

Shipp said the demolitions are frequent, sometimes three a week in the Gulf, but are seldom video-taped. Shipp also sits on the Gulf Fisheries Management Council, and has been a strong opponent of the demolitions.

“It’s a double whammy,” Shipp said, “Not only are we killing a lot of snapper, but we’re also destroying their habitat.”

The old rigs are an eye-sore, but under the surface, they’ve developed into artificial reefs with rich coral habitats. On some of the older rigs, those habitats have grown over the course of 30 to 40 years.

The killing of the red snapper is also infuriating charter boat captains and anglers. Federal restrictions keep cutting the red snapper season shorter and quotas smaller to protect the species from over-fishing.

“They tell us not to fish [red snapper] but they’re blowing them up,” charter boat Captain Jason Domange told Local 15, “It’s a cryin’ shame.”

The confidential source who provided Local 15 the video estimated 10,000 pounds of fish, mostly red snapper, were killed after that one demolition.

”That’s a year’s salary for a lot of people and that’s just going to waste,” Domange said.

Dr. Shipp said the killing of red snapper has both environmental and economical ramifications.

"We're talking about the most valuable fish species in the Gulf of Mexico, the one on which so much tourism, industry and restaurants depend," Shipp said, "Then we see something like this, which is just a blatant waste of a very precious resource."

COMMUNIST Cuba is an island surrounded by fish, yet there's a fresh fish shortage there.  Ya gotta wonder if its got something to do with policy, doncha.

They want to rattle up a leak.
Can't rattle Alabama, they're already rattled up.
You know.

Where is PETA?  Fish have feelings too, you know.  I just saw a story about cutting down giant redwoods to make way for a bike path.  If that tree had been slated to be cut down to make way for a logging road, Darryl Hannah would be living in it.  The hypocrisy of the left is stunning.  Water boarding is bad, but drone strikes are okay.  I live in western PA, and yesterday I heard the airport authority signed a deal to lease land for natural gas fracking.  Everywhere around there, groups of leftists and municipalities are trying to prevent fracking, but it's okay if the government does it.

I'm more than uncomfortable, I'm getting scared.  I just read that the government is sending out letters to veterans who have PTSD or other mental issues telling them they are not allowed to own firearms at all.  I have a physical condition that causes extreme pain, and I was prescribed anti-depressants for that.  They didn't help, and I quit taking them after trying about six different kinds, but now my medical file includes treatment for depression.  I had to take my daughter to the doctor twice in the last week, and it seems weird that we had to have a talk about guns while she really sick.  I went in with her, and they didn't ask about guns in our home, but I felt like a criminal telling her if they ask to just say no, we didn't have any, when we do.  It's starting to get personal.

Not allowed. . .

That speaks volumes!

Our government is not our friend, I cannot tell you not to feel afraid, but you certainly should not be made to feel a criminal for refusing to give people who have no business asking anything in a doctors office not pertaining to your medical needs occasioning the visit!  If anybody deserves to feel like a criminal it is the people pushing this!  They should feel worse, they are thugocrats!

I am in that boat too.  I have dealt with migraines since I was a kid, and for about 2 years was taking a SSRI daily. There is evidence that they can help in preventing migraines from starting, and the drugs are being prescribed off-label for it. I quit taking it 3 or 4 years ago because it didn't seem to be having any effect either way. But now I don't like the idea that "my file" has information they could conceivably use as an excuse to deny people their rights. And if it isn't a SSRI, it will be something else. They're going to keep broadening their criteria in pursuit of their real goal of total civilian disarmament.

And if your file doesn't have it, it will get added.  They only want a thin veneer of legitimacy on it - so when you gun down the police officer in your driveway ( or he guns you down)  they can claim you were "crazy" - and the sheep won't look up.  Until its thier driveway of course. But then it will be far, far too late.

Thin veneer, like the police have had for decades. . ."you crossed the fog line, that's why I pulled you over", doesn't matter if it is BS or not.
