Exciting new prog project!
« on: October 14, 2013, 12:18:14 PM »
This is supergroup stuff.  Yes alums, Rick Wakeman, Tony Kaye, and Billy Sherwood, along with such luminaries as Robbie Krieger, Edgar Winter, Al DiMeola, and even Steve Vai.

Is your leg tingling, yet?  Are you trying to imagine what kind of vocalist they could bring in, to fully pull off this extravaganza?  The best of the best?  Greg Lake?  Jon Anderson?  John Wetton?  William Shatner?

Come again?

William Shatner to Release New Concept Album Featuring Rick Wakeman, Robby Krieger & More

I admit, as a progger, this is probably my

moment.

King Crimson also announced their new lineup (less Adrian Belew): King Crimson will be Gavin Harrison, Bill Rieflin, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Mel Collins, Jakko Jakszyk and Robert Fripp.

I've read elsewhere that the new Crimson lineup has no plans for new music, unlike this Shatner led project.  Just imagine what this could be!  I'm thinking spoken work re-interpretations of such prog classics as...

I'm gonna make love to you, on love beach
Make all your dreams come true, on love beach
Gonna make love to you, on love beach
Gonna make your dreams come true, on love beach
Gonna make love to you, on love beach.

A re-uniting of Red era King Crimson couldn't excite me as much as William Shatner covering Love Beach.

One can only shake ones head and  ::whatgives:: when it comes to Shatner.

I am a HUGE Trekkie. All the spinoffs were a bit ridiculous.... I liked TNG and DS9. Otherwise, meh.

But in my eyes, Shatner is a thing to behold. He could hardly be more bizarre. His career path outside of Star Trek could hardly be more unconventional. His decision making about how to portray himself to the public could hardly be more... questionable.

And yet, here he is, an old man, up to his old tricks, surrounding himself with uber-talent, acting as if we should all take him seriously.

That's the thing you never know with Shatner. Is he serious?

His body of work, the frequency and consistency of his work, and the public reaction to his work, would all suggest, "yes, of course you should take him seriously."

But then...
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

You're trying to divert me from the tingle I'm feeling at this Shatner project, by throwing one of those almost Crimson projekcts my direction.

I WILL NOT BE DETERRED!

But Adrian Belew being out.  That will be different.  I guess he'll just have to be content to playing the cruise ship circuit.

ADRIAN BELEW performing at Progressive Nation At Sea 2014!

Is that worse than the casino circuit?

Halfway joking.  It's a cruise dedicated to prog.  It gives fans a chance to see bands that don't have the following (outside Europe generally) to mount proper tours.  If I didn't just blow my vacation budget...Yes also headlines another of these cruises.

If getting old means getting excited at this, then it's AARP time, I guess
