Raining hard, thunderstorms earlier, some snow melted, gutters working fine. When the rain stops later, then the 50+MPH winds come, with gusts up to 65 MPH. I hope the forest preserve trees protect us a bit.

Here are some pics I took when I was plowing the other day, after my buddy with his backhoe had come to knock back some of the piles so I had somewhere to plow the new stuff.

That pile looks like the one on my corner. The one across from me in my neighbors yard is twice as high.

We have 'em around here, too. I remember up in Charlevoix, MI, in my USCG days, we'd put an international orange ball on the cars' radio antennae so we could be seen at intersections with high snow piles. Can't even do that any more since such things are generally not on cars today.

When we were there, they averaged over 200" of snow a year, some of which fell before Halloween and remained until mid-May.

We had heavy rain and thunder and lightning last night. What's the old wives' tale -- if it thunders/lightning in the winter, snow within ten days.

Got a dusting of snow last night, but the wind is HOWLING out there and blowing snow all over the East/West roads and driveways. Guess what I'll be doing later on...

Got a company to replace our roof vents - all 12 of them. They were useless; collapsed on and into the outlets.

The roof is clean now, except for the light dusting we got last night. Gutters working fine. WHEW!

This has been one hell of a winter, huh?

Yeah, it's been brutal. Sun is out today, which feels nice...of course half my ground floor windows are half useless as all I can see is piles of snow.

That post storm 24" on the ground was the most since 1982, when we set the record at 38" in the Twin Cities. In fact, this was just the 8th year in history, a snow depth hit the 2 foot mark.

Now, it's time to start climbing up the top 10 winters, for sub zero days.

Good read, from Pee Wee Douglas. As you can see, most of these records were set from the 30's on back, before the Urban Heat Island got into full gear, with growth. This winter, 1982, and 1979 are basically it, for post 30's record winters.

It's supposed to get to +20^o today, then the bottom drops out, wind shills of -40^o. Thursday a low of -2^o and a high of +4^o, wind chills of -45^o. Then 10" - 12" of snow on Sunday and staying bitter cold.

It's never gonna end.

Supposed to get no more than an inch of globullwarmink but the cold lasts through the weekend.

It rained here yesterday and then the temp dropped to below freezing, creating ice everywhere. Trees down. Some power out. Roads a mess. Any snow/ ice in Tennessee creates a mess. Couldn't get out on my neighborhood until this afternoon because of fallen trees.

We didn't get to make a milk/egg/bread run, so I don't know how we will survive.
