Putin is insane...this gets him nothing from a global strategic sense, does nothing to deter the US and South Korea from responding to North Korea aggression, puts Russia in the crosshairs if there is aggression and yet again sees him aligning with the worst regimes on the planet.

Enjoy those bitter fruits, dumbass!   ::laughonfloor::

I never pay attention to anything NK related.
Putin was heading to Vietnam from there.  Blinken told Vietnam not to admit Putin or some such.
Somebody hand Blinken a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People.
Most of the time a US so called diplomat opens their mouth I cringe.

Don't see much coming from Vietnam helpful to him...China is bullying all SE Asian nations and Vietnam and China have a troubled history...and with Russia being more tightly tied to China than perhaps any other nation...about all he can get is a short chat and a polite photo...

But then again I saw no benefit in embracing the Norks either, so maybe Putin is aiming small and missing big...

There are still ties between Russia and Vietnam. Eli from Russia taught English in Vietnam after university. She has done videos from there. I knew an exchange student from Siberia, now Moscow, who vacationed in Vietnam.

I think things have calmed down between China and Vietnam. The ADVChina guys road their motorcycles through Vietnam and Bald and bankrupt did a video or two from there. Such people wandering round with video cameras give a pretty good picture of a country.  The Indigo Traveler guy did several from Iran including a long hitch hiking segment.

I was an advisor in Nam 71-72, as I recall North Vietnam was always friendly with Russia, neither North or South Vietnam would give the time of day to China, and that attitude preceded even the French occupation.

Yup, China and Vietnam have a long angst-riddled history...the former trying to reassert control over the former since independence movements sprouted from ancient times through the modern period...and the North/South divide (Trinh's and Nyguen) divide goes back to the early 17th century...not sure how prevalent the latter divide is but the hard feelings with China is not going to abate anytime soon...
