http://www.walmart.com/ip/Generac-5982-GP3250-3-250-Watt-Portable-Gas-Powered-Generator/15773633?findingMethod=rr

1200W EPA-Approved Generator
$124.00

But I can't find a store that has it on line.

Well, cancel that.  The stores that have it in stock want 2 for it.

I have some friends that recently approached me about selling their genset. Apparently they dragged it all the way back from Florida when they returned to Washington state. New and unused they said that they paid $4k for it and that it's a 15kw gas-powered rig. Initially they said that they wanted $2k for it.

I expressed interest and asked for details but haven't heard back until this morning where I now understand that they opened an ad on craigslist to trade it for a car. It looks like this one is gonna slip away from me.

That sounds like a whole house Generac unit that set up to run propane only.2K is a good number but if you keep looking around you might get lucky as I did and get a good unit for hundreds and not thousands.

And if they don't get any takers that will put you in the drivers seat as to price.

I won't find one like it for hundreds - not in this part of the country. It's attractiveness was its newness. Anything on the street is a pig in a poke. But yea - if it's meant to happen it will and we'll work out a mutually agreeable deal.

I have one of those little 1200W 2-cycle generators and recently had occasion to use it during a scheduled power outage. It ran surprisingly well, and easily powered the important stuff (HDTV, satellite receiver, a couple of lamps).  Running it for about 3-4 hours it had used very little fuel and was quiet.  I definitely recommend having one of these smaller generators to complement a big one. It was way easier getting it setup than dragging the 5000W unit out of the shed.

That's a good buy.  I have a 6000W with a Honda motor.  That 1200W
@ 10ยข a watt is what I'm looking for.  A little something to run the
electric chain saw or one of those two hour "scheduled" outages.
