State trailer license plates
« on: November 02, 2013, 04:26:00 PM »
How much do you folks have to pay for your trailer license plates? I know Wisconsin doesn't have plates for trailers.

In Illinois it's $18.00 per year.

$19 in NC. The few times I've taken one onto public roads I never bothered with it. I'm also known to ignore "No Turn on Red" signs that make no sense. I call it my executive veto.

Fees aren't the problem...

https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/Pages/license-plate-fees.aspx

...it's all the other stuff they pile on.

Like every state the ticketing process is primarily a revenue-driver...the rarity is a true safety-centric reason for a citation.

And while individuals are scruitinized, nobody is more set upon that commercial outfits...many small business general/sub-contractors!

The fees for insepctions, safety upgrades, licensing, medical exams...

It is a fricken racket!!!

That's true, but once a trailer is licensed here, there is never an inspection or anything else for that trailer. I have an old Coleman Versa-Trailer that I bought new in 1982, and it was never inspected or anything since then - just the license plate tax each year.
