Hard to say, though. We should know definitively within the next 24 to 48 hours. They will examine his blood for live virus and if it's there he is in big trouble.
The patient, Michael Monnig, was transported from a Frisco Care Now facility where he was complaining of “stomach issues,” according to sources.
Monnig’s children told CBS 11’s Andrea Lucia that their dad woke up this morning feeling sore and a little nauseated.
The soreness is a warning sign but it should be accompanied with a fever. The nausea may or may not be an indicator because usually the vomiting shows up later rather than earlier. But then, it is very likely that we are seeing incomplete reporting on this story...we don't know what we don't know. (btw, kudos to whoever wrote this and properly used the word, "nauseated.")
Also in big trouble would be the "experts" that told him and his family that because he had had no direct contact with the victim he was not in any danger. That is utter nonsense. The guy was in the apartment for 30 minutes...more than enough time to touch an infected surface and then rub his eye or touch his nose. That's all it would take. Plus, he was NOT on the CDC list of people to be observed. Comforting.
Monning was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials because he never had direct contact with the patient. Monnig did enter the apartment where Duncan had stayed before being admitted to the hospital.
“He was in the apartment for 30 minutes, which we were told is no chance to contact the virus,” said Logan.
Now that is just a flat out lie if accurate.
“We were told by federal officials, county officials that you would have to come in direct contact with Duncan or direct contact with bodily fluids, and he did not,” said Monnig’s son, Logan, about the possibility of his dad contracting Ebola.
Perhaps this sounds mean and nasty but I don't care: If anyone deserves to be infected it is the judge who oversaw this idiocy. That guy deserves to die for treating this so casually.
And...if this guy is infected and if the family was told that there was no (zero) danger of infection the public will take a big step toward either believing they are being lied to or believing that the "experts" are idiots. Neither one of those choices is a good outcome. You can mark that point (should it happen) as when people began to panic.
