A great man once said "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.", and by "Government" we of course understand this to mean Progressives of any stripe!!!

Leftism uses any issue to advance Leftism. Look at anything. Global warming, for instance. The planet can only be saved by redistribution of wealth, government control of energy, government control of transportation, government control of agriculture, reduction or elimination of national sovereignty, reduction of individual liberty, etc, etc, etc.

You can do that ith ANY issue. The solution to every crisis is Leftism, and confiscatory taxation is the prime requisite.

They especially like to create or worsen a problem with government, and then point to that new problem as a reason for yet more government.  There is no coexisting with them. There is no "live and let live" because the concept is entirely alien to them. The only lingering question is at what point will continuing to comply with the increasingly capricious nature of the regulatory state become more onerous than shooting the bastards.
