The Democrats and especially Obama keep talking about "Unity". Last night he said we should try to remember how great it was when we were all unified after 911.
First, we weren't all unified. The UFPJ and the ANSWER Network who later would become responsible for all of the major anti-war protests (including opposition to Afghanistan) called a meeting in lower Manhattan just blocks from the still smoldering WTC 3 days after 911. They developed a plan to oppose the imminent response by the US government. One of those rallies in Chicago, featured Barack Obama who made his now famous anti-war speech that acted as his primary tool to bludgeon Hillary Clinton out of the Oval Office. No, not everyone was unified and Obama exploited that by siding with the ones who threw stumbling blocks in front of our military and our President.
Second, Why is he so hungry for unity? Its pretty clear he doesn't want unity based on love of our country. He wants unity for support of him. Sounds like projection. Wasn't Bush accused of trying to use war to gin up patriotism to profit for himself personally.
Third, how did we become dis-unified? The pivot point that made the Answer Network lefties go viral was Howard Dean firing up the netroots in 2003 and when he proved a candidate could make money lying about our President and using Vietnam era anti-military rants, greed and lust for power flipped every major Democrat, except Joe Lieberman (who was crucified for it). Obama portrayed himself as being at the forefront of the anti-war Democrats.
Today is a day to remember that Gitmo, Rendition, remaining in Iraq and Afghanistan, drone attacks, military tribunals, sending commandos into a sovereign nation and an endless list of once demonic policies are now the tools Obama and his political allies are claiming will propel him to a second term and a fast track to sainthood. He is asking for unity based on policies that he criticized in order to win the Presidency that he now is trying to prop up as the primary reason for him to be re-elected.
I went to the Answer coalition website and UFPJ. Any mention of disaproval with the operation that killed OBL? Not a peep.
Just like Clinton's wag the dog, his military operations are based on domestic political approval ratings to keep him in power, period. You can bomb anyone, wiretap anyone, invade anyone, as long as it serves the purpose of keeping a socialist in power in America.
When Obama calls for unity based on a successful military operation after all of the disunity he has sown, I can't help but be reminded of an old joke.
A farmer and his wife were driving through town in their pickup and noticed a young couple in a similar truck. The young couple were sitting close together and the man had his arm around his woman. The wife said, "Its been a many years since we did that. Why don't we do that anymore?" The husband said, "In all these years, I've never moved".
Obama wants Unity? Bush was criticized for being stubborn for sticking to his original mission. Bush never moved.
