I went to see 'Limitless' today and was surprised because it wasn't exactly what I expected. By the trailers, I figured that he was going to crash and burn at the end......oh well.....better shut up incase someone hasn't seen it yet.

Don't know what I will see next week yet?

Any suggestions?

Heard talk that "Atlas Shrugged" was good and the suggestion was that everyone
should turn out opening weekend in order to boost recognition.

The trailers look pretty good.

I didn't hear that anywhere, and I've independently had the same idea.  I plan to see it next Friday, and if I really like it I'll go back and see it again on Saturday to do what I can to give it a big opening weekend.

Weisshaupt and I haven't gone to the movies in ages, but we recently did go see Battle: LA, and were quite pleased.  We wouldn't have gone had it not been recommended by Bill Whittle who's trying to get Declaration Entertainment off the ground.

Wow, who knew?  Hollywood can still produce a movie about American soldiers actually being heroic, and not the enemy (like they were in Avatar).

I highly recommend it.

And yes, I plan to be at Atlas Shrugged opening weekend.  I've been trying to get through the book before I see the movie.  It's rather difficult, because it's so damn depressing - reading about the slow decay of infrastructure and industry, individualism, and achievement and then watching it actually unfold in reality before my very eyes.

I have anxiety over seeing Atlas Shrugged in a condensed format, but I will probably go see it and pass judgement after digesting the effort.  I may actually go to a movie only once or twice a year at most, if at all.  I just have nothing in common with most of those people and it is often reflected in what gets doled out to the consumer.

Hey Damn Lucky, I like your Chesty Puller quote.  My favorite of his was when he first saw a flamethrower demonstrated and asked "Where does the bayonet go?"!!!

The last movie I saw in a theater was "Team America: World Police", which was a few years ago.  I don't want to give the Hollyweird leftists any more of my money.  I did see Bill Whittle's video about "Battle:LA", so I should probably check that one out.

Hoo boy.  Awaiting the details .....

So I'm watching my boy's team play in their first rugby game of the season. Brutal frikkin sport if you've never seen it. One of my boy's good friends, Nick, got his ankle buckled under him, got trampled and ended up at the bottom of the pile. It turned out to be a severe high ankle sprain, and it happened directly in front of my wife and I and our little girl, not more than 5-10 yards from where we were sitting in lawn chairs. As the injury occurred and for the few moments after, Nick was screaming in agony, yelling "my ankle, my ankle", and for several awful moments, the game play continued with him at the bottom of the pile, screaming. His mother was just to our left, mortified.

After they got the other kids peeled off and the trainer and coaches were looking after him, a group of about 5 of the opposing players from the older kids' squad who were sitting on the ground just to my right began mocking Nick, quietly crying out the words he had cried out, and laughing. They made fun of him yelling out, saying that his injury wasn't as bad as he was making it sound. Called him a pussy. I looked over at his mom, and she was oblivious, but it was pissing me off.

They kept it up, so finally I looked over and I said, "You kids should shut your mouths." They were silent for about 5 uncomfortable seconds, and then one smart ass says, "Yeah, we should shut our mouths", and they all laughed. I said, "You should be ashamed of yourselves. The kid's hurt, why would you mock him?" Again, silence for a moment, and then the same kid says, "Yeah, we should be ashamed of ourselves," and they all laughed again. I said, "Little smartasses, aren't you? Little tough guys. Real cool fellas." The same kid, "Oooh, we're f**king smartasses." Then I said, "What a bunch of assholes." The same kid, "Yup, that's me. I'm an asshole," more laughter. I said, "Who in the hell do you guys think you are?"

In an instant, one of the kids who had been facing away from me the whole time - strong, athletic young Black kid - jumps up and moved towards me in a threatening manner. I was with my wife and 6 year old daughter, so I was out of my seat just as quickly squaring off. A couple of his teammates grabbed him, but he was gesturing to me with his hands like "c'mon".

I said "Who in the hell do you think you are kid? You're actually thinking your going to fight a parent at your school rugby game? Seriously? Daddy beat you one too many times?" By that time some parents from the kid's team came over, some of them were trying to pull him away, and some of them were telling me to sit down. I was saying, "f**k you, I ain't sitting down. This prick threatened me. Get him outa my face. And teach your kids some sportsmanship and some respect for their elders."

I refused to move, so they all relocated further down the sidelines.

It was a bad scene.

Sounds extremely tense. There will be repercussions.  Apologies may be demanded from you; after all, "they're only kids", seeing as how no other father had the balls to dush any kid in the back of head.

Good for you for standing your ground; the kids AND THEIR PARENTS need to get their heads straight on the crucial difference between kids and adults, and the expected decorum from each.

Title: Re: Bunker2011
Post by: IronDioPriest on April 10, 2011, 12:53:42 AM
There won't be any apologies coming form me, I can promise you that. I'm deciding now whether I want to demand that the team be sanctioned for their behavior and the kid punished for threatening violence. They've got no business playing a school sport with an attitude like they demonstrated, and this kid was obviously unhinged. I'm not big on demanding apologies, but I want those kids to pay.

Title: Re: Bunker2011

I bet those kids never heard that kind of reprimand from any adult, including their parents.  Probably being raised by a single push-over mom.  Wow.  I'm glad you stood your ground.  There are times when community members need to step in and do what's right.

Weisshaupt and I were once on a walk (before we had kids of our own) on a path near our house.  There was other building construction going on in the neighborhood.  A couple of 10 year olds were up on a large pile of dirt and proceeded to throw rocks at us.  The first landed a few yards off from us.  The second a few feet.  The third nearly hit me.  We heard the kids laughing.  One of the kids was winding up to throw the next rock when Weisshaupt started tearing after the kids cursing and hollering up a storm.  They were so scared one ran away and one froze.  After quite a vicious talking to we proceeded to walk the remaining kid home and tell his parents precisely what their kid did.  I'm guessing he got more of a lesson from Weisshaupt than from their own parents.

I wouldn't doubt it a bit. I left off the epilogue for the sake of concise storytelling. You'll remember I mentioned the kid was Black, and that we stood our ground, refusing to be the ones to relocate to diffuse the situation.

Well, a bit later on, the little punks' team was back on the field (after my son's younger age bracket finished their game). The kid who had a mind to confront me is a good athlete in spite of his attitude problem. I noticed once when he did something noteworthy on the field, his mother (a very liberal-looking White woman) who was standing behind me off to the right said to another woman, "That's my son, the a-hole". I said in front of the other parents from her son's team, "I can see where your boy gets his sh*tty attitude." The boy's father quite obviously was not in attendance. Whether he's present in his life is another question. But it was obvious from this short interaction that the Black prince has the ego-driven attitude we often see in Black athletes, and had never been exposed to discipline.

It was just an all-around negative situation.

Oh for God's Sake!  No wonder the kid's an a-hole, he's got his mother out telling everybody he is one.  Probably tells him, too, on a regular basis.  And where's Dad?  Or is all he's got is baby-mama?  Yah, you'll be seeing her on the "news" one day, whining, "Not my son, he din't do it; he's a gooood boy!".

Sickening.  Disgusting.

I feel sorry for the kid in all this. Because in the end he loses.Yes he behaved like an idiot and yes I would have smacked him in the head for being an idiot. But in the end he's going to be another waste of a life. Lord know we have a shortage of self centered bung holes. How many have ended up broke alone and or both and in jail.

All because nobody can control their behavior.

You handled it well, IDP! It sounds like the group of kids had so little upstairs they don't even realize how pathetic they sound. Lack of compassion is a sign of a lack of human decency.

Last  movie I saw was '300'. The movie before that...I honestly can't remember it's been so long.
I had no interest in seeing 'LA', but may very well change my tune knowing who's behind it.
"Atlas" is now in our list, if we can find a theater in this sh*tty state that will run it.

Hey IDP, these folks weren't from Andover were they?

I got in a confrontation with a bunch of idiots from there a couple years ago at my nephews hockey game.  He played on a Blaine team that was matched up against an Andover team that was a class higher.  I don't know why they allow that, but anyway my nephews team is battling away, and the trashy parents were boorish as hell.  I literally felt something snap in my head like I haven't felt in years when after my nephew went down fighting for the puck, another Andover kid just blind-sided one of our kids and sent him sprawling to the ice.  This trash started cheering the intentional violence of a kid!

I snapped, stood up and got in the face of the fat bastard who shouted "that's what you get!" and asked him "Wtf his problem was, telling him you don't root to have kids hurt, what kind of sick effer are you?!"  This fat bastard can only say "Shut up" and I just kept standing in front of him.  Taunting him, thumping him on his chest...this fat bully bastard was a pussy who liked cheering violence but had no ability to back up the crap coming out of his mouth.

This continued until the game was over, then mingling in the vestibule I saw 4 other parents for my nephew's team, and it was the mother's  ;D, getting in the face of the other team's mothers they heard say stupid sh*t reading them the riot act just like I was!

Something dangerously wrong in parts of that community and I think all the a-holes wound up in one bunch!

Some people!

It happens everywhere.

Years ago at my sons high school soccer match, we are playing in an affluent area of Nashville, a private school. Now, our team wasn't particully talented at soccer...we were a bunch of football players "intructed" by coaches that we would play soccer...LOL.

I think we lost 3-1, but the score really didn't matter. The game was rough. Lots of fouls. After the game, there is only a large parking area and after a brief team meeting, we were leaving. Some of thier players took it upon themselves to taunt our guys as we left....With several of thier parents within earshot.. It was bad, with foul language the standard. Frankly, it was sad. A few of our parents instructed our kids to let it go, lets just leave.....Until one felt the need to hurl a water bottle and it hit my car. We didn't use a team bus, the parents provided transportation. Now I'm mad....And my son has to be restrained.

I approached a few of thier parents to see if they witnessed my car hit. I know they did, but I was giving them an opportunity to defuse this. Now, the kid who threw it was ramping up the verbage as I was speaking to, it turned out to be, his parents....and it is now directed at me.

His parents had the gall to state they were just being kids, as he is cussing me literally 10 yards away. I requested them to have him stop. He is laughin and taunting me and the parents did nothing....It was really unbelievable. SO..... I walked over to the kid and told him.....See the kid over there itching to get here? If you don't stop now, I'm allowing him to come over....

Well, the kid didn't stop. His parents started over but it was too late...My son made his presence known, got in the kids face and said something like "now say one more thing." He did, my son body slammed him and before he could be pulled off, lets say the kid was real quiet afterwards....

Honestly, I did not like the violence. You had to be there to hear the stuff thier team was yelling and the ends we went to just leave.

But you know, sometimes there is no other option. His parents turned out to be pussies. We actually played them at our place later that year...LOL......We won that match as their kids were petrified....LOLOLOL

I'll tell you the truth I never really wanted to go my kids soccer matches because I get very excited and pace for the whole game like a caged cat. But I did go here and there and at one match one of the kids was a little dick that hat a talent for hitting the opposing players in the face with the ball. It was amazing he would just square off and wham right in the puss. Then he hit my kid in the second half and he went down so the coach pulled him out to get the stars out of his eyes and I was there asking if he was OK. He was spitting mad at how dirty this guy played and that he gets away with it(not to mention his parents go the biggest laugh out of it)

I asked if he wanted to go back in and get himself thrown out of the game He got the biggest smile and begged to get back in so I talked to thew coach that was not happy about it but he had 4 players with swelled up faces in one game and he agreed to let him in and do his thing.

I played a little as a young man and the deal is simple when you want to get even and the opposing player is up close you go to kick the ball away but you graze the unprotected part of the leg usually behind the shin or if the player is down you simply step on whatever part you can see and grind you spikes into him.

That always cools their heels and the parents are no longer laughing it up.It's just a little intimidation nothing more.

 I didn't raise punching bags.

This administration passed over Houston to receive one of the retired space shuttles, even tho' the Johnson Space center was at the heart of the program. Shudn't be surprised.  ::evil::

Here Big Al, send this over to the fools at CT...

Those who cling to the untrue doctrine that violence never settles anything would be advised to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms.
-- Robert A. Heinlein.

Possibly my favorite quote of all.

Pay the debt

It's coming for you (http://causapatet.blogspot.com/2011/04/its-coming-for-you.html)

Raising the debt ceiling/limit is insanity.  If we did this all our possessions would be confiscated to pay the debt and we would be placed in a controlled environment.

from the above link:

...you will note the man in the lower left hand corner to bring it to scale. Remember ...    $55,000,000,000,000.00 (http://www.usdebtclock.org/). Visualize that picture stacked 54 more times. That is magnitude of our national and private debt. Most of that "money" does not even exist.

Here's a fun one for y'all...

When I was searching for a sanctuary for Random and myself I took into account all of the amenities - even if they weren't directly mine. So things like "location location location" included a close look at the nature and quality of the neighborhoods. I rejected several really nice houses because of the area in which they were situated.

The first time I saw it I knew that this one was "home". It fit nearly every requirement. Placid neighborhood that was old but not too rundown, quiet neighbors, and a greenbelt that offered some seclusion from prying eyes. A lot large enough to make a mess without irritating the neighbors and most of all, offered privacy. Lots of trees.

Bunches of nice trees.

I've been here 2 1/2 hears now, and things have - for the most part - met my expectations. (notice how he seems to be leading up to something?!)

Last week I finally got up on the garage roof and cleaned the debris from the winter storms we had including some 10-12 foot fir branches. While I was up there my neighbor apologized for the mess his trees had made of my roof. I replied that it was part of the "joys of home-ownership" and no biggie. Yesterday my neighbor approached me to let me know that he was going to take out the trees - all of them. I was dumbstruck.

"Why" I finally croaked.

"The wife doesn't like them. Too much upkeep" (you gotta be sh!ttin me?!). In order to fully appreciate the irony of his words you would need to see the junky white-trash wonderland that is his backyard. I have a 6-foot fence that blocks his mess so I largely cut him slack - up until now. Upkeep my azz.

So he is going to cut down about a dozen trees that shield me from the harsh afternoon sun, the worst of the winter wind, and (most especially) the neighbors - him included. To say I'm bummed would be a world-class understatement.

It would be one thing if he was harvesting the timber for a payday but the dumbazz is giving the wood away (to offset the cost of removal)! Just to add insult to injury he wants to use my property to load the logs since his yard is so trashed that he can't get a loader in there.

If I were a drinkin man I'd be 3-sheets about now.

Happy Easter

My wife and I were at Walmart today when there was either a gunshot or a really loud damn firework report inside the store. From the sound of it, it was about 2 or 3 rows over from where we were, which happened to be near the door to the three-season lawn & garden area. People gasped and shrieked, and for a couple seconds, froze, looking in the direction of the noise for some further sign of a situation, but that sign didn't come. After that first few seconds, people began running or walking quickly away from the area. I learned something about myself in that moment.

Since I began carrying, I've never been involved in any kind of immediate threat situation, so I've never known for sure how I'd react. I took the training and know by the textbook how to assess a threat level, but I've never had to actually employ that knowledge in response to a real threat. Immediately upon rebounding from being startled by the noise, I realized that it may very well be that I was the only person in the immediate vicinity with the ability to respond if this turned out to be a violent situation. That was my very first thought after "holy sh*t what was that", and I am a bit surprised to say that fleeing or exiting never entered my mind. I motioned for my wife to head away from the area (I'm proud of her because as we exchanged glances I knew that she knew what I intended to do, and she never protested), I checked to make sure my firearm was unencumbered in my pocket holster, and carefully moved toward the direction from which the noise had come.

As I moved forward I was reassured by the fact that immediately following the report, there was no screaming or yelling, no sound of struggle or people fleeing the immediate scene. I became relatively sure that whether a gun or a firework, no one had been harmed. So I don't want anyone to think I'm tooting my horn for walking into live gunfire surrounded by gangstas. I'm just sharing because it crossed my mind as I was carefully working my way toward the direction of the noise, that I was walking toward potential danger and not away from it. That's something a person can't really know about themselves until they encounter the circumstances.

So now I know.

Never did find out what it was. Some employees came running over after, asking what the noise was, and nobody seemed to know. I smelled burnt gunpowder, and it didn't smell like a firework. No paper residue on the floor that I could see. So who knows. My gut tells me that some punk entered in through the lawn and garden area, and either blasted a round or a firework, and left the way he came in.

The White House press operation should be a well-oiled machine – and under Carney’s predecessor, Robert Gibbs, it sometimes gave the impression of being just that. But with Carney at the helm, it is more like that of a rinky-dink City Hall somewhere in the Deep South.

3. I will be giving an address this coming Sunday, May 15th in Boston (Framingham, Mass.) at the invitation of Rabbi Jon Hausmann from Avahath Torah Synagogue. Rabbi Hausmann is a leader in the anti-jihad movement and other speakers he has had in his series include Mark Steyn (probably the best columnist active today), Wafa Sultan (do a youtube search on her and watch), and Rabbi Hausmann is escorting Geert Wilders on his North American speaking tour this week. In other words, I am going to be in some pretty lofty company. It is my understanding that the event will be recorded and livestreamed. My address will be roughly 30 minutes, and there will then be a Q&A session.

It is my hope that this address firmly explains and clarifies the relationship and linkage between Christendom and Jews. I know for a fact that there is MASSIVE confusion and uncertainty amongst Christians about how we relate to Jews and Judaism, and since no one will just step up and explain these things, I guess I'll have to do it.

Next, I will discuss our divinely ordained rights as human beings, codified in the Constitution of the United States, and how those rights and our system of governance come directly out of the Judeo-Christian milieu and the Bible.

Additionally, I will fully and completely rebut any and all accusations of "hatefulness", "intolerance" and "bigotry". That will be an epochal throwdown on par with the Lindsey Graham throwdown - except that I am a far more intense speaker in person than on a little YouTube video diddy. In person you can actually see the laser beams coming out of my eyes.

Finally, to tie everything together, I will reveal my three-point tactical plan should the poop hit the fan. And yes, this is the one scenario in which revealing your plan beforehand is the correct move. Trust me.

After the event in Framingham, I will then speak at a rally being held in Boston on Boston Common. The Marxist and muslim nasties should be out in force at that deal. I'm REALLY looking forward to that.

If you're thinking of drafting an email right now telling me that I shouldn't do these things, and that I am putting myself in harm's way - don't waste your time. I have been given the opportunity to speak such that the entire world can hear me. I have the chance to say everything that needs to be said, but that everyone else is either too chickensh*t, too stupid or too evil to say. I have the potential ability to shape and direct and shore up with truth the global conversation. Do you honestly think that I am going to pass that chance up? Clearly there are forces at work here beyond myself. Clearly these things are happening for a reason. Do you really think it is God's Will for me to spend next Sunday afternoon doing laundry like most other Sunday afternoons? Really? And how, exactly, would I answer Christ at my particular judgement when He asks me, "I wanted you to say those things. I set the whole thing up for you. If you had just been brave and gone to Boston, history would have been different. Why didn't you TRUST ME? WHY WERE YOU AFRAID?"

I'm not afraid. Not even a little. I'm going to Boston, and I'm going to relish every second of it. And if I come home in a box, my corpse will be smiling.

Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito!

Yeah, she listened too. She said she couldn't hear anything but gusting wind, and it wasn't even that intense. I got home about 45 minutes later, and the ground wasn't wet, and there were no limbs down or anything. The weathermen were saying the winds were 90 MPH, and the missus says that no way were they that intense by our house. Yet sure as shinola, they're saying it passed very close, and touched down for quite a while.

According to common wisdom, the safest place for us during a tornado is in our little, tiny inside hallway closet.  We're in deep kimchee if we have to use it, us and the two cats.  If we have to duck in there, I'll be pitching stuff out like a mad woman because there's almost no floor space.

Rug attachment (for whole-house vacuum cleaner; canister in crawl-space), stepstool, folded up aluminum platform for the short-shot here.  Takes very little room, but there isn't that much room to start with.

All of that -- out -- and the contents of a couple of shelves as well; we'll stash the catzez up there.

No, no flyswatter, just your treatise on how contract law is still viable in this country, i.e. toilet paper, capa tostA!

I have been thinking about your suggestion, CO.  For various uses.  We just don't have that much available open land and I'm loathe to cut down any more trees, but it's not out of the question.

 Know it all?? You called??

I wouldn't want to be underground since the storm can be dropping rain at ridiculous rates. But any way down here it's the overall construction that's the trick. Houses down here are built to reach the  exact opposite results that they are in snow country. The whole deal up north it for the house to carry a snow load here it built so nothing lifts off.

But hurricanes are slower  but the last longer than tornadoes.Houses do have safe rooms but are disguised as master closets. The way they do that is by anchoring the cinder block walls to the slab and fill the block with cement and run steel rod all the way up in the cavities and the closet also has a solid steel door that opens into the closet that stays open so you don't see it and use bi-fold closet door that's visible from the outside.

The ceiling can be steel plate over sheet rock so it all appears to be normal or you can use plywood in the ceiling over sheet rock. But it becomes a bunker.Wood frame House can be done by adding plywood in all the walls to stiffen a room to a point.

I would rather do a cinder block shed/safe room. outside the main house.

An anchored reinforced structure should do the trick, not sure how big/expensive that is.

An Oklahoma-style storm cellar not an option eh?  Too low-lying/poor soil/drainage?

The worst of it is the slab and footers. Depending where you live on how deep the footers go,down here it's 12/18 inches. The blocks are around 1.20 each and those are 8X16 and then the re-bar and concrete mix to fill them.If you never laid block the best way is to dry stack them and fill the cavities with concrete not mortar.

The roof can be wood but you have to use brackets to tie it down to the concrete.

The root cellar is probably no cheaper to build because you still need a floor and walls and roof.

Yeah, makes sense to scrap the mortar and anchor on cement then.  Up here drain tile makes a big diff, and we go deeper in our foundations due to deeper frost layer.  I supose if you were building new, incorporating a bolt hole would be the only way to make the cost as cheap as possible, but for existing structures you are pretty much forced to work with what you have.

...
[blockquote]"It's not possible to open an aircraft door in-flight, and cockpit doors have been reinforced," says American Airlines spokesman Ed Martelle.

"Since airplanes typically cruise above 30,000 feet, the air pressure inside the plane is much greater than the pressure outside — and that pressure differential makes it impossible to open the door," Boeing's website says.[/blockquote]...

Rapture will occur this Sunday!!!!!!

Followed by the end of the earth in October!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Camping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Camping)

Prediction from Harold Camping:

Camping's trademarks include his deep, sonorous voice coupled with a slow cadence. He has also used mathematical predictions applied to the Bible to predict dates for the end of the world.[2] His current end times prediction is that the Rapture will be on May 21, 2011 and that God will completely destroy the Earth and the universe five months later on October 21.[3][4] He had previously predicted that the Rapture would occur in September 1994.[5]

BTW, my bags are packed!!

The 21st is Saturday. I'll be travelling so it's gonna have to wait.

More Barnhardt

I went to Las Vegas and attended Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. I can't say enough about the excellence of the Front Sight programs, facilities, curricula, and most especially the instructors. They are professional, uber-competent, yet friendly, good-humored and approachable. Just outstanding. On this trip I took the 2-day practical rifle course (AR-15) on Friday-Saturday and the 2-day tactical shotgun course on Monday-Tuesday. Exhausting, but great, great fun and a near-vertical climb on the old learning curve. Significant events of the weekend in chronological order: ...
...
If you want to see Hoover Dam pics, just do a Google search. For all my cattle people, here is a nifty picture: it is one of the plaques on the top of the dam showing that the turbines and generators were made by Allis-Chalmers. Cool!

pic

Did you know that Hoover Dam is NOT anchored into the canyon in any way? It is merely WEDGED. The weight of the dam itself is the vertical anchor, and the force of the water behind it is what seats it horizontally into the sides of the canyon. When they built it, they didn't know for certain that it was even going to work. BUT THEY DID IT ANYWAY. That is AWESOME. But due to this design, if there is an earthquake, the dam can MOVE and resettle itself should the ground below or the canyon walls on the side move. SHUT. UP. Hoover Dam. I love it very much.

I have a shallow theological theory.

Adam and Eve were butt naked in the Garden, hence it was warm. Extrapolating from that already questionable conclusion, winter is a part of the fall of man, and therefore a portion of the curse we are under.

and you don't throw out a perfectly good theory just because it's wrong. (Reference the Theory of Evolution).

Conclusion? I hate winter, and obviously love God more than you who love winter. Repent while there's still time.

Title: Re: Bunker2011
Post by: Delnorin on October 20, 2011, 02:41:48 AM
Delnorin knocks three times on the outside of the thick Bunker door, waits and then knocks twice more.  He pulls his tinted goggles up off his eyes and places them up on the top of his kevlar helmet and looks up into the inconspicuous camera mounted up in the corner above the thick steel door.

After a few moments of showing his identity to those within the door can be heard clicking open with an audible thunk and then opens as if on a spring two inches towards him, a hissing of presurized air disturbs the scarf around Delnorin's neck and pushes back some loose leaves on the ground near his combat boots.

Glancing over his shoulder, Delnorin looks up the concrete steps.  He knows he hasn't been followed to the Bunker but he still can't get over that itching feeling that the eyes-in-the-sky might have been activated again.

Heaving the several thousand pound balanced door open he slips in and pulls on the inside handle to secure the door once more.  A click as bolts slide into place inside the door sounds in the small entrance room and then the inside lights turn on and chase away the darkness.

The room is only four feet wide (the width of the door) and six feet long.  Stainless steel ceiling, walls and floor are layered with nozzles and sensors as fans in the walls turn on and begin spinning and swirling air around the entrance chamber.  The sensors sniff and calculate the air as the computer system checks if Delnorin has been contaminated biologically or otherwise.

A stainless steel door on the opposite side of the entrance chamber remains secure as Delnorin waits and watches the unlit red and green lenses above the inside door.

The green light illuminates and the inside door opens inward with a hiss.

Delnorin lets a soft sigh of relief escape as he pulls the door open, never comfortable with that feeling that he might have picked up something topside that might ban him from returning to the Bunker.

Stepping through the inner door he pulls the door closed behind him and then nods to Larry, the man on duty behind the armory cage window this afternoon.

Pleasentries are exchanged as Delnorin pulls his S&W .357 Magnum from his shoulder holster.  He flips the cylinder out and unloads the rounds into his gloved left hand and then places it on the mat through the smaller window in the cage of the weapons check counter.  The six brass cased rounds he sets on the mat before he unclips the four speedloaders from their dual holsters and places them on the mat as well.

The Ruger 10/22 he's been carrying in the crook of his arm gets his attention next.  He presses the button beneath and the clip drops out the bottom to be caught in his right hand.  He pulls the charging arm back and the small .22 long rifle round flips up in the air and he catches it.  The rifle he slides through to Larry and then puts the loose round into the clip and hands it over as well.  From pouches on his combat vest he pulls out four 40 round bananna clips for the rifle and lays them gently on the padded black mat for Larry as well.

As Larry starts to re-inventory the items back into the armory into the log book, Delnorin pulls the shoulder strap off his left shoulder and the Winchester lever action .30-.30 rifle comes around into view.  Some fast lever action cycling of the chamber flips rounds up into the air one at a time to be caught.  Seven rounds get placed on the mat of the heavier caliber and then he slides the rifle through onto the mat as well for Larry to inventory.  From pouches on his combat vest he pulls thirty rounds from the elastic loops and lays them on the mat next to the Winchester.

A long black knife gets pulled up out of a sheath on his right thigh and placed on the mat and then he starts to remove his Kevlar helmet, goggles, the combat vest itself, harnesses and holsters.

It's a thirty minute process to check everything back in and for Larry to verify that he's coming back in with all the gear he went out with earlier (minus explained usages: reports required to explain).

After getting the thumbs up from Larry, Delnorin shoulders his pack and opens up the next door, flips on the light inside and then steps through and closes the door behind himself.

A long narrow hallway of concrete stairs leading down takes Delnorin down well over one hundred feet below ground level until he comes to a landing where another reinforced steel door awaits him with an unconcealed security camera mounted in the corner above the door watching his approach.

A voice speaks from the camera, "Delnorin, glad you made it back.  I don't see any obvious injuries.  Do you need medical or are you okay?"

Delnorin looks up into the camera with a sideways grin on his three day stubbled chin, "Nothing a good shower and a cot can't fix."

The voice in the speaker hesitates a moment, "Benjamin says he wants your report before you head down into the community areas."

Delnorin nods his understanding.

The door clicks unlocked and he pulls it open and steps through.

Pulling the door closed behind himself he breathes another sigh of relief and mutters softly to himself, "Home."

A larger chamber welcomes Delnorin home.  Off to the left a set of double doors with reinforced glass set below a large red sign that reads "Sick Bay".  Beyond that another set of double doors with smaller windows set in them lie beneath a large blue sign that reads "Gymnasium".

On the right side of the chamber a heavy steel door lacking any windows sets into the concrete wall under the sign "Security".  Beyond that, another door lacking any signage.

On the far wall a set of double doors with small windows lie closed and secure below a hand crafted sign made from a roll of long white paper that reads, "Welcome Home."  The sign he has seen countless times since this became his home and a sign that lets him know he can drop down his guard again and trust people.

Turning to his right, Delnorin approaches the Security office door and it clicks unlocked as he reaches for the handle.  Pulling the handle open he moves inside and closes the door behind himself.

"Delnorin.. you lame excuse for a scout, what news do you have?"

Delnorin turns around slowly with his patented(tm) grin on his face to meet his old friend Benjamin, "Colonel; it's nice to see you too."

The two exchange hand shakes and then Delnorin puts his pack down on a metal framed padded chair and moves to take a seat in an identical chair before a metal desk as Benjamin moves around behind his desk to take a seat as well.

Delnorin eases himself down into the chair and then begins his report, "Within the outer paremeter I ran across an informant named Big Pat.  The same guy that made those .50 cal customized mounts for the jeep.  He informs me that the enemy has started probing again for weeknesses in sector Delta."

Delnorin unzips a flap on his pack and pulls out a notepad computer and flips the screen up, presses a few buttons and then starts a video before turning it around and handing it across the desk to the Colonel.

Muslim yells Allahu Ackbar and threatens all passengers on Texas aircraft (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2SgcIm_XKM#ws)

Delnorin waits for the Colonel to watch the entire video before speaking, "If you press the right arrow button the next report will come up.  I picked up this next report from Big Pat as well."

Now this sounds like fun.  We can select our name and job?  Goody.

Lady Virginia.

Cook, Security (internal Bunker, external (scout, military, scavenger, hunter, etc), Hydroponics, Medic, whatever you want your job to be.  Like Larry (security: internal).

nope.

Lady Virginia is the smokin' hot wife of the former British Ambassador.  She's tired of the aires and cares of the Royal elite, having heard her name in the same sentence as the word trophy one too many times.  When the Ambassador proved more in love with his station in life than her she stays in the US when he packs up and returns home.  Faced with a choice to continue on her carefree ways or become something more she embraces all things American even getting a tat of a tiny American flag on the back of her right shoulder. But more than that she embraces the principles the country was founded upon and learns from old pros what it takes to keep those rights.  Though in public she'd be mistaken for a TMZ target she knows her stuff and can put down a zombie with the best of them. Only a lucky few who ever come to the bunker get to meet her.

Something like that.

 ::hysterical::

I'm just playing with ya' Delnorin.  ;)  Do whatever ya' want though I'm sure you'll see think of something really cool.

What a fun idea, D! Look forward to the next chapter.

After Benjamin examines the footage his scout has brought in of news from the outside world he closes the screen down on the notepad computer and hands it back across the desk to Delnorin, "Good intel Del.  I've got more work I need you to see to, soon."

Delnorin nods slowly as he accepts the notebook back and slides it back into the pocket in the backpack in the chair to his right, "I figured as much," he says with a joking tone.  He speaks after only a short pause as he zips the flap shut over the notebooks pouch, "Can I have a couple days with my family before I go out again?"

The Colonel shakes his head as he runs a hand over his balding head, "I can give you one day.  Tomorrow is you and your wife's anniversary, I'll give you that; but I need you to report back in tomorrow night for your briefing."

Delnorin stands up slowly and picks up  his pack, shouldering it as he responds, "I understand, she will too.  Thank you though for the day off."

Benjamin stands up behind his desk and holds out his right hand as the two of them grasp hands tightly, "You did good work Del, now rest up."

Delnorin turns and leaves the Colonel's office and closes the door behind himself after entering into the Hub - level 2 (Medical, Gymnasium, Security).

As the scout starts to stride towards the double doors beneath the welcome home sign he stutters his step (a bit jumpy) as the medical doors open and out walks Virginia in her white lab coat.  Her hair is pulled back behind her head in a braid and she moves into the room with purpose.  As is normal with her, she always seems to have a place to go and a task at hand that needs done, and needs done yesterday.

"Del, Hey there, how is it topside?"

Delnorin moves to join her on her way to the community area beyond the double doors, matching pace with her to talk as they go together, "Not too bad.  I snagged a half dozen fox squirrels and a small deer," he says as he jostles the pack on his back, "Thanks for those chemical ice packs, without those the meat would never last the hike back here."

Virginia upnods as if dismissing the appreciation, "Tanya says your anniversary is tomorrow; you'd better not have forgotten you putz."

Delnorin pulls one of the double doors open for her and she passes through as he shakes his head and chuckles, "Darn Virginia; your more harsh than she is."

Virginia walks through into the chamber beyond the doors and the auto-lights turn on as she comes in, "Well, us women have to stick together.  If we left it up to you guys we'd all be pregnant and unappreciated.  At least we might as well get appreciation," she says as she rubs a hand over her stomach.

Delnorin's eyes widen just slightly as he steps into the room with her, "Really?  You're gunna have a baby?"

The new room they find themselves in has a large freight elevator pull up door before them and then two stairwell doors on both the left and right of the elevator.

Virginia walks towards the left hand stairwell and pushes the door open, the light inside auto-turning on as she enters and Delnorin follows her.

Virginia responds as she starts down the concrete stairs that wind back and forth going down, "That's the general consensus," she says, always with that attitude that doctors carry that they know something you don't know.  She reaches the first landing and turns to head down further, "Speaking of which, why don't you and Tanya have another one?"

Delnorin's lip snarls up slightly, "You've read our medical files Virginia, you know we haven't been able to have any kids after Kendra."

Virginia becomes quickly quiet as she continues switch-backing down the stairway, deeper and deeper into the earth.  The auto-lights turn on as they continue down each flight of stairs and above they time out and turn off.

Delnorin doesn't push the issue any more, her forgetting about their problem with not being able to have more kids was a proof that she wasn't perfect and he didn't want to interrupt her if she was thinking she should have remembered that.  Now was the time to let her realize that she wasn't so perfect after all.

After ten flights of stairs (10 floors) with no doors on any of the landings they come to their first available door and the stairs also continue down further.  On the door a small placard reads, Level 3.

Virginia stops at the door and puts her hand on the handle before turning to look at Delnorin, "Sorry about the crack about babies, I wasn't thinking."

Delnorin nods with a genuine smile on his lips, "Don't sweat it Virginia, you're good people.  I know you didn't do it to be mean."  He pauses a moment before asking, "You don't happen to be going to the mess hall are you?"

Virginia considers his question before answering, "I could be."

Delnorin grins wide and takes his pack off his shoulders and unzips the top, "Can you give them some packs of fresh meat I brought in?" He asks and explains further, "They're all clean and wrapped with the cold packs inside, not all nasty or anything," and he pulls out the wrapped plastic objects.

Virginia sighs just slightly and nods, "Sure... everyone needs the fresh meat and protein.. I'll do it," and she takes the packages from Delnorin and hefts them with both arms.

Delnorin zips the pack back up and pulls it over his shoulders before he pulls the door open and fills the stairwell with the sounds of someone playing the guitar and singing.

Parachute - She is Love (He is Love Acoustic Girl Version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npn95Rg58mc#)

The room beyond the stairwell door reveals the freight elevator door beside them and then another stairwell door opposite, matching the arrangement up on Level 2.  This room though is open to the level 3 Hub without a set of double doors isolating the larger chamber from the elevator and stairwells.

The floor here is no longer concrete but covered in simple lowest-bidder tiles, meaning they're not high quality and attractive.  The furniture in the room consisted of six couches, all made of 1970's rusty orange vinyl, lovingly referred to by those that live here as nuclear furniture.  The couches were set in a large U-shape with their back towards the freight elevator and facing the opposite wall where Pandora sat perched on a metal legged stool with her guitar as she sang to a group of about twenty people.  Kids and adults mixed equally sat and listened to her play and sing as they enjoyed simple card games and board games on the floor or relaxed on some of the uncomfortable couches.

A few turned to look over their shoulders as the stairwell door announced Virginia and Delnorin's arrival with its resounding ker-thud and echo up through the stairwell.

Head-nods exchanged so as not to interrupt Pandora's song, Virginia split off towards the right and Delnorin moved off towards the left.

The Level 3 Hub was the center for the community level.  Access on the right wall where Virginia was heading held archways that led to several locations.  Each archway was well labeled above on signs and each archway had the same yellow/black striped flat edge above the head that reminded everyone that each was a blast door that would lower down when needed.

On the right side of the Level 3 Hub were archways labeled Mess Hall, Hydroponics and the third archway was labeled Restrooms.  On the far side of the Hub were three additional archways; School, Theater and Supply Closet 3a.

On the left side of the Level 3 Hub where Delnorin was walking towards three arches had their official plaques covered over with homemade wooden signs painted by hand.  The signs over the arches read, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah.  Each archway led to its separate housing area but the residents had decided long ago that it was better to say they lived in Wyoming 12c instead of Pod A 12c.

Delnorin picked up his pace, his heart quickening a bit as he felt himself drawing closer to his family as he stepped through the archway to Colorado and started striding down the tiled walled hallway.

The sounds of Pandora's song slowly fades behind him as Delnorin fixes his mind on their living quarters ahead, taking the hallway to the end past several doorways and then to the end of the hallway he turns left where it branches both left and right and he plows right into Priest.

"Hey there.. watch where you're....", Priest berates Delnorin for his clumsiness.

"So sorry... didn't hear you coming," Delnorin apologizes.

Priest points up to the convex mirror mounted high on the wall at the intersection that is made for people to see around the corners, "Forgot about the mirror?"

Delnorin frowns, tired and dirty and not feeling all that willing to get chastised much further so his voice doesn't sound too generous when he offers, "Congratulations on the coming baby Priest.  Virginia seems happy."

Priest seems disarmed and distracted for the moment as a smile comes over his face, "Yeah.. she does doesn't she," he grins from ear to ear.  He takes a half step back away from Delnorin so they can chat casually, "Oh, I put that new centrifugal pump in that you brought me last week.  It's not exactly the right size but it's good enough to get the pressure up in Colorado for the showers to work okay again."

Delnorin nods his head and smiles wide at the good news, "Perfect.  I was worried it might be a low volume high pressure casing by the looks of it; I'm glad it wasn't.  Some of those guys over in Colorado were getting pretty ripe," he jokes with a chuckle.

Priest laughs a bit at the comment, "Oh, I should talk to you later.  There are some more electrical supplies I need the next time you go out.  Square D Fuses and a few other things.  Do you still have areas close that you can scavenge?"

Delnorin nods as he adjusts his pack on his back for comfort, "Yeah, we've got quite a few places left.  I haven't even spent much time in the city yet.  Things are still in chaos there with gangs and the UN troops seem to have moved on to another area right now."

Priest considers the scouts news, "Good, I'll prepare a list of what I need.  When you going out again?"

Delnorin hmms with a bit of a frown, everyone seemed to come between him and his family, "Two days from now."

Priest nods and starts walking off towards the Hub, "Okay, I'll get my list together... and Del... watch the mirrors."

Delnorin chuckles to himself and shakes his head as she regains his path towards home, heading down the hallway to where it dead ends.  He's passed dozens of archways into individual family rooms as well as two different community restrooms/showers until he's come to the archway at the end of the hall here.

Delnorin raises his right gloved hand and raps solidly on the steel door.

Tanya steps back after a long kiss with her husband in their housing quarters, "You be careful okay Del?"

Delnorin nods with a smile as he reaches down and picks up his black gloves off the metal coffee table and puts them on.  He glances over to his daughter Kendra, in her early teens as she's doing Algebra at the small table nearby, "Hey baby-girl, you be good for your mom while I'm gone okay?"

Kendra looks up just briefly and offers, "Yeah, whatever," and then goes back to her work.

Tanya half-smirks to Delnorin, "Teenagers," she says as the smile turns more genuine.

Delnorin hefts up the backpack and then slips his other arm through the strap and gets the pack in place, "Benjamin says I should be back in two or three days.  I can't tell you the details but it's nothing more dangerous than the things I've been doing so I should be just fine."

Tanya steps forward and gives her husband a soft kiss on the cheek, "We'll be here when you get back."

Delnorin nods and moves across the small room to the archway and pushes the green button on the large panel beside the door and the heavy steel door rises up on its gears inside the walls to allow his exit.

Stepping through into the hallway, Delnorin glances back to his family in their simple little home and then turns and walks down the hallway, the proximity detectors in the door assure he's through and then start closing the door automatically.

Delnorin's black SWAT boots announce his arrival as he comes to the intersection and he glances up at the mirror to make sure nobody is around the corner before he veers to the right and heads for the level 3 Hub.  Part way down the hall from the intersection, on his way to the Hub, an archway door on his left opens up and Priest steps out.

Priest has a large tool bag over his shoulder with at least forty pounds of wrenches, sockets, screw drivers, electrical testing equipment, tape, plumbing parts, a torch and dozens more items of his 'fix anything' trade.  His overalls are fresh and clean at the start of the day and he pulls on his blue baseball cap as he steps out into the hallway.

"Priest," Delnorin offers in greeting, "Morn'n."

Priest steps out into the hallway and his familiy quarters door closes and leaves the two to talk in near-privacy.  He reaches up with his right hand into the pocket of his overalls over his heart and pulls out a folded sheet of yellow legal paper and then offers it forward to Delnorin, "Here is that list I told you bout.  See if you can't get most of the items?"

Delnorin accepts the list and puts it into a pocket on his combat vest where he keeps a picture of his family and some personal items not related to combat, "I should be in a target rich environment for your supplies this time."

"The city?" Priest guesses.

Delnorin smirks, "You know I can't tell you that."

Priest grins and slaps Delnorin on the shoulder harder than necessary, "Yeah, I know.. but can't blame a guy for wanting to know what's going on topside can you?"

Delnorin chuckles, "Hey Priest, you seen Virginia?  I wanted to get some more of those chem ice packs from her before I go out."

Priest nods, "She gets up even earlier than I do.. she should be up at the clinic."

Delnorin nods and starts walking towards the Hub and Priest moves to walk with him in the same direction.

Priest chats as they walk together, "I've got to get down to sub level 12.  The cominuter on the sewer system keeps getting plugged with plastic.  We need to make the same announcement to everyone again.  No plastic down the toilets," he sighs in frustration.

Delnorin nods, "Maybe if we can find out who's doing it we can recruit them for a bit of extra duty down on sub level 12 with you.  Nothing changes a person's view and habits than experiencing the effects of their actions."

Priest nods as they step out of Colorado and into the Hub, "I'll bring that up at the next council meeting and see if I can get enough support.  If nothing else, maybe I can find out who's doing it by seeing who objects to the idea," he grins.

Priest and Delnorin both head towards the elevator but Delnorin stops and pushes the up button to ride it upward and Priest heads for the stairwell on the right.  One of the House-Rules, you only use the elevator when you are going up (unless you are transporting goods/equipment.. to conserve on wear/tear and electrical energy).

Delnorin waits at the large elevator door for some time alone as he waits for it to come from wherever it was last.  Early morning hours are quiet in this area.  The kids are still getting ready for school, the parents are preparing for their days at their own jobs and life is just easing into the new day.

Though it is underground and the rising and setting of the sun has absolutely no influence on the life below in the Bunker, traditions are kept to help keep sanity and give people the natural day/night changes that help everyone cope.

Pandora steps out of the Montana archway into the Hub as Delnorin is still waiting and she looks over and catches his eye, "Hey there Del.  Did you decide on what Tat you wanted me to give you yet?"

Delnorin shakes his head just a little, "Not yet Pan.  I am thinking of just a simple cross right now on my upper right arm.  But I'm not sure yet."

Pandora continues heading across the open Hub towards the Mess Hall archway on the opposite wall as she talks to Delnorin, "Well, just let me know when you want it done, kay?"

Delnorin nods as Pandora heads then through the archway on her way to breakfast.

The freight elevator 'dings' as it comes to a stop on the level 3 Hub station and Delnorin hefts up the heavy door and then pulls down on the strap to open the inner clam-shell blast doors.  Stepping into the freight elevator on the thick hardwood floor he reaches up and pulls the outer door down and then he reaches up and pulls the strap to bring the top half of the inner door downward as the bottom half rises up to meet it in the middle and then he pushes the button for the level 2 Hub.

Delnorin rides the elevator upward in silence as he goes over the mission given to him last night by Benjamin.

1.  Proceed to outpost Bravo and take one of the scout dirt bikes towards the city.

2.  Arrive with caution at designated GPS coordinates (a small house near a gas station on the outer edge of the city).

3.  Protocols for interfacing with the informant at the house to get lastest intell about the city.

4.  Wait until nightfall and then head into the city.

5.  Objectives in City:
a. Gather intel on any UN activity, proceed to hospital near center of city to recon and acquire any medicines that might be left over after looting.  If
none present, confirm the source is no longer useful.
b. Proceed to National Guard Armory on North side of city (GPS coordinats given) and take inventory of situation.  Any activity in area, supplies.  If picked
clean after looting, confirm the source is no longer useful.  Look for communications equipment, possible secure locations where military personel might be
in hiding below ground.  Do not reveal location or any information about Bunker2011.  Strictly gather information.
c. Proceed to various electrical contractor supply stores/warehouses (GPS coordinates given) to get supplies for Priest.
d. While in city, gather intel on gang activity and report on any additional data which could be useful.

6.  Exit city only during hours of darkness and proceed to informant house.

7.  Refuel scout dirt bike and return to outpost Bravo (follow standard procedure for enemy activity to include crossbacks, deep valley travel, pushing
without engine use at times and extended down times to see if you are being followed).

The elevator eases to a stop and the button light for Level 2 goes out.  Delnorin opens up the elevator and steps out onto level 2 and then closes both sets of doors on the freight elevator before walking towards the clinic on his right past the gymnasium.

Delnorin pauses just a moment at the clinic door and then pulls it open after he gathers enough courage to face Virginia again.

Upon opening the door Virginia's voice barks at him, "Delnorin!  I haven't got all day to wait around for you to get your lazy butt out of bed and out of this Bunker today.  About time you showed up."

Delnorin takes in a breath and counts to five as he approaches her in the near sterile environment of her clinic.  He walks past the empty narrow beds with fresh sheets on them with their powered down sensors and meters on poles and their white pull-around curtains.  Nearing the central office of the clinic where the circular counter surrounds the Doctor Virginia's computer monitors and her assistants sitting quietly at their desks working, Delnorin upnods but doesn't say anything.

Virginia points to a small cardboard box on the counter nearest the doorway side, "Your chem packs are in the box."

Delnorin moves to the box and picks it up, deciding it might be better to jest snatch and grab but then feels bad and asks carefully, "You okay Virginia?"

The doctor looks like she's going to snap at him again and then sighs softly, "I'm sorry Del... I've been up for two hours already.  I woke up vomiting this morning."

Delnorin's facial expression lights up as he puts the pieces to the pscyho woman-puzzle together in his head, "Morning sickness?"

Virginia nods with a grimaces, "'fraid so."

Delnorin nods and slips the small box under his left arm, "Thanks for the chem packs.  I hope to maybe find some medical supplies for you today."

Virginia's eyes light up at that news, "The city?"

Delnorin chuckles just a moment, "You -and- your husband ask me questions you know I can't answer."

Virginia nods with a big smile, "Okay then.. well.. good luck.  And please, be careful.  Don't come back with any holes in you."

Delnorin laughs as he turns and heads for the level 2 Hub and moves on his way to the stairway on his right to climb up to the ground level and get his weapons and ammo as well as his armor from Larry at the weapons locker above.

Out of breath as he reaches the weapons check in platform, Delnorin closes the door behind himself and walks towards the cage as Larry can be heard chuckling to himself on the other side of the metal mesh wall.  Stepping up to the counter area, Delnorin can't help but laugh as he gasps for breath from the climb as he comes to see Larry wearing a bright red and yellow Hawiian flowered shirt on the other side of the metal mesh wall.

Larry's mouth is split in a wide smile as Delnorin comes into view in front of the cage, "I thought you'd like it," he says as he tugs with both hands on the front of his shift to smooth it out, "I wanted to remind you that you've got someone waiting for you back here."

Delnorin shivers in disgust, "Eeeewww".

Larry bursts out laughing as he starts to retrieve Delnorin's standard weapons choices.

Delnorin speaks up as he bellies up to the counter outside the caged room, "Instead of the Winchester this time Larry.. give me that Mossberg 500 12 gauge pump."

Larry hmms to himself as she moves to a different area in his room lined with shelves and racks of guns and ammo and armor, "Going into the city eh?"

Delnorin shakes his head with a grin, "Can't tell you that, you know that Larry."

Larry pulls out the proper shotgun and brings it back to the counter and starts the process of doing the paperwork, "Yeah.. and I'll probably find out soon enough anyway.. but still."

Delnorin and Larry work through the process of arming the scout for his mission.  The last item Larry signs out to him is an encrypted military radio that

Delnorin slides into a pouch on the back of his belt and runs the spiraling stretch cable and microphone up around and under his arm to come up and clip on the shoulder strap of his combat vest.

Larry offers to him as he completes the paperwork and turns it around for Delnorin to sign on the bottom, "Channel 12 today, 15 tomorrow and 3 the day after. If you're out longer than that you need to follow communications protocol for delayed entrance or authentication through one of the other outposts. Unless of course.. you want to just hang out at the outside door until I feel like coming up to see if anyone is outside waiting," he teases.

"Hey," Delnorin jokes, "I know that video camera has more than just the monitor for you here.  I'm pretty sure the Colonel has one in his office.. and there are probably other places."

Larry nods, "Yeah.. but it's not fun trying to mess with you when you know the security."

Delnorin grins and moves over to stand by the doorway that leads to the entrance chem/bio sniffer room.

Larry clears his throat, "Hey Del."

Delnorin glances back towards the weapons cage.

Larry offers over to the scout that is heading outside, "If you are able to go past my old house.  Can you check in and see if you can get the photo album that is under the bed in the master bedroom?"

Delnorin nods, "You bet Larry.  I'll make a point of doing that.  I'll make the time for it."

Larry smiles wide and presses the green button in his cage and the exit door clicks and then hisses as it opens up for Delnorin to leave.

Need Help With Storyline:

Our daughter has Type 1 diabetes.  Without Insulin she will develop Keytones, her sugars will be nearly impossible to keep down into healthy ranges.  During the day she'd be required to exercise a good 8 hours a day and at night her sugars would swiftly climb to dangerous levels because she's not exercising.

As far as our family can find out; there is no 'natural' substitute for insulin.  When Walgreens stops handing it over (with our health insurance).. she's going to die.

Not sure I want to get into that in the story.. I think I'd rather 'cure' her.  But that's running from reality.

Suggestions?  After electricity goes down.. even the insulin stores in pharmacies will start to go bad.

Any ideas?

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is weeks away from launching an unmanned aerial asset to help deputies fight crime. The ShadowHawk helicopter is six-feet long, weighs fifty pounds and fits in the back of an SUV.

Title: A Trip to Town
Post by: Delnorin on November 25, 2011, 04:49:48 AM
Delnorin eased up on the throttle of the motorcycle as he began to approach a slow and lazy corner in the road turning left ahead.  The older 1984 Honda Magna didn't have off road capabilities but it did have a rather large fuel tank and a quieter exhaust system.  Distance and stealth had been the main pressing issues from the outpost on his way towards the city and the older street bike had been quite reliable each time he'd been sent in this direction.

He felt nervous though each time, preferring to travel in the night on foot felt less as if he were a target.  Night travel with the bike, or with any vehicle, was out of the question because of the headlights revealing his position.  Still, to be safe he stopped every mile or so and got off the bike, climbed either a tree or to the top of a rise in the topography and surveyed the area with his binoculars before leap-frogging ahead another mile.  Traveling alone had its advantages of stealth, but also a large disadvantage of having no back-up.

As Delnorin eased up on the throttle the old jerky speedometer needle eased down towards the zero and finally came to a rest on the peg inside the dial as he put his feet down to steady the bike and flip the kick-stand out with the heal of his left boot.

Flipping the kill switch with his right thumb, Delnorin stayed quiet on the motorcycle and watched and listened around him.  The aluminum block of the V45 engine crackled occasionally as it cooled and then the radiator fan kicked on to cool the bike.  Frustrated with the noisy bike, he flipped the kill-switch back off and then turned off the key and pulled it out of the ignition and pocketed it.

Swinging his leg up over the back of the bike he pulled his binoculars out of the left saddlebag and put them into an old gas-mask bag he wore on his hip for storage and then he pulled his Winchester lever action .30-.30 out of the holster on the side of the bike and surveyed his planned route to the left up onto the rise that concealed what lie beyond the curve in the road.

A faint wiff of smoke caught his senses and he paused a moment before glancing back the way he came on the road; towards known safety.

A steady long breath and then he left the old two lane roadway and started the slow and gradual stalk up the hillside as quiet as he could manage.  A glance at his watch told him he was about an hour away from the Bunker and still another twenty minutes from where he would drop off the bike and resupply before going into the city.

On foot now, Delnorin stopped more frequently to look and listen.  Mostly he knew that listening would be his greatest asset.  Animals could move around right next to you and be nearly silent, other than those freakishly pesky squirrels that took delight in scampering about and chattering at you from the branches above.  But it was signs like this that Delnorin listened for.  Squirrels in the distance or Bluejays that would reveal the presence of other people in the area.  The smell of smoke though is what weighed on Delnorin's mind currently for it came on the wind and the wind was in his face.  Whatever was causing the smoke was on the other side of the rise.

It took a good ten minutes to get up to where Delnorin needed to get on hands and knees and start inching forward at the crest of the hill and where he both thanked having the military helmet on and at the same time cursed it for its shifting down in front of his eyes so often as it tilted forward.  Pushing the helmet back on his head as far as he could with this gloved hand the chin-strap strained until he released the brim of the helmet and put his hand back down onto the ground.  His left hand held the rifle as he knee, knee, right hand, knee, knee, right hand inched forward and the land on the other side of the rise gradually came into view before him.

Slipping down onto his belly, Delnorin held his rifle across his elbows and inched forward now on his elbows for the last few feet.  Coming to a stop at the base of a large black spruce tree he eased into the thick bed of decaying needles and stayed close to the darker shadows the tree offered.  Grasses in the field on the downward slope of the hill ahead gave him additional cover as he placed the rifle just within reach to his right side and without removing his eyes from the scene in front of him reached down into the gas-mask back to retrieve the binoculars.

An old farm house that had been abandoned for a few months now lay down the rise and across a large field on the other side of two barb-wire fence lines and a sparse tree-line that had been planted to break the wind for the crops that used to be grown in these fields.  Raising the field glasses to his eyes he flipped the caps off and then slowly worked the focusing wheel to bring the scene ahead into clear view.

The old farm house no longer appeared to be vacant.  A thin whisp of smoke rose up from the chimney of the two story old house and it quickly vanished upon the wind that was drifting right towards Delnorin.  The range finder on the field glasses said it was about 1/4 of a mile from his position and he grimiced as he knew he'd be missing his two day deadline in getting back.  Rather than risk being spotted on the road from the Bunker, he knew he would have to stash the bike and wait until night, taking that last 20 minute bike ride on foot in the dark would take a good two hours.  He also knew that on the way back he'd have to be lugging a jug of fuel from the refueling location so that he could make it back to the Bunker without running dry.  Such was the way of every mission; something always raised it's head to cause a smooth plan to get a little bumpy.  In the larger scheme of things, he was just glad it was something so simple as a detour.

Searching the area further, Delnorin very gradually panned the field glasses and paused to wait for movement or anything that would reveal itself.  It didn't take long before he spotted something move.  A flip of a knob on the field glasses magnified the view considerably and they zoomed in much closer.  He sure liked this military gear they acquired, so many more advantages than the civilian gear he'd had before the world decided to turn upside down.

A slight adjustment of the focus and Delnorin squinted just slightly to make out what he'd seen move.  After a moment or two he spotted a small twitch again and this time could tell it was a boot.  The small shed or garage behind the farm house had its sliding metal door pulled back about a foot and just inside the shadows of the dark interior of the garage Delnorin could see the toe and bottom of an old boot.  He couldn't make out much more in the darkness of the garage but the movement again revealed that whomever was wearing the boot must be sitting on a chair or a crate or something. The heal of the boot was on the ground and the toe up in the air, shifting left and right just slightly out of bordeum.  A sentry.

The dark interior of the garage concealed the sentry further but Delnorin surmised that the person wearing that boot likely had a long range rifle with a scope or binoculars at the least.  It was a good position that offered cover and a view of most of the roadway on the other side of the house, it offered a view across the large open fields as well.  If Delnorin was a gambling man he'd guess that the back side of the old house had another sentry looking back beyond the garage and behind the first sentry where he would be unable to see from his position.  Two great positions with wide open views.  To sneak past the old farm house would have to be done at night and that meant waiting a good six hours until after sunset.

Whatever vehicles they may have must be in the garage with the first sentry, a smart thing to put a guard on their vehicle and likely supplies.  Many that had kept alive in the chaos had learned to stay mobile and flexible and ready to move on a moments notice.  Fight or flight had become all too familiar in the lives of people these days.

Delnorin slipped the field glasses away and then eased back away from the rim of the hill and made his way back to the motorcycle.  He was pretty confident that the quieter motorcycle would not have been heard but he needed to conceal it while he went onward on foot after dark.  Pushing the bike off the road was always a pain, the thing weight easily over 400 pounds and it only had a ground clearance of about six inches.  The trick was finding a clump of pine trees very near the road.  Pines are thick with cover and by lifting a few branches you could wheel the bike in under their cover and half the concealment was already done for you.

Delnorin spent a good half an hour collecting branches and weeds in the area to cover the bike properly and then made his way back up the rise and then again on his belly to ease up into his previous position under the black spruce to pull out his field glasses again and observe the farm house.

Delnorin brought the farm house into focus again and watched in silence as the hours slipped on.  Due to the distance he could not hear anything happening at the farm; and if his wife was accurate he was nearly deaf anyway.  At one point a woman dressed in bluejeans and a black t-shirt exited the back door of the farm house and carried a cardboard box to the garage.  The sliding metal door of the garage pulled open a bit further at her arrival and the sound of the rusty metal wheels on the track did manage to make it to Delnorin's ears, just barely.

A man inside the garage became visible in the increased light through the door and Delnorin could see a bearded man with a black hair pulled back in a small ponytail behind his head.  The man could be seen leaning a scoped hunting rifle up against the inside of the metal door as he accepted the cardboard box from the woman.  Thankfully the scope looked standard civilian issue, no night-vision ability.  A pair of binoculars around the mans neck also looked standard civi issue.  The two exchanged idle chit-chat for a while and seemed in good spirits.  The man seemed to be speaking about the area as the woman looked about and across the fields as he mentioned things to her.  It unnerved Delnorin a bit but she seemed relaxed and not edgey as she looked around and she never seemed to lay her eyes on his position under the large spruce tree.

The woman didn't stay long before she turned and went back into the house.  The bearded sentry though was now visible as he sat down in his chair and held the box in his lap, pulling out a sandwhich and revealing what had been delivered was his lunch.

As the woman entered the back of the house a mutt of a dog sprung out of the house for some fresh air and went running back to the garage to greet the bearded sentry.

Dogs... Delnorin frowned.  Their sense of smell and hearing was so accute that they nearly always foiled any attempt at stealth.  If it wasn't for the wind direction and the significant distance he was at, Delnorin figured he'd soon have been found out now that the dog was out and about.

Rechecking the wind direction again, Delnorin breathed a bit easier and then kept watching the house.  If they had a sentry at the garage and one upstairs and then the woman, he figured the group must be at least five or six strong.  Twelve hour shifts on sentry duty were a fairly standard arrangement in small groups when they weren't traveling.  Larger groups could manage shorter shifts and free up more time for other duties.  A larger group though would have more vehicles and Delnorin figured that at best two trucks could be hidden in the small garage.

Delnorin smiled a bit to himself as he watched the farmhouse for more time.  It was good to see people back this near the city.  He wasn't sure if it revealed that the UN troops had withdrawn from the area and people were feeling more secure and willing to come back to places such as this... or if the people were just ignorant and forgot how to stay out of the grasp of the UN snatcher teams.  Then again, they could be working for the UN and be spotters for the roadway and have been given their freedom in exchange for keeping the Blue-Hats informed about what was going on in the area.

This latter idea troubled Delnorin as time slipped on and he waited for for the sun to set in the West.

This last idea caused Delnorin to search the roof-line of the house a little closer.  Studying the roof of the house at maximum magnification it took him a good ten minutes to stop at a point on the back of the house near the peak.  He hadn't noticed it before because there was no mounting bracket.  A hole had been drilled through the roof and the shingles could be seen where they were chipped and ripped away by the drill.  It looked to be about a 3/4 inch hole drilled through the shingles and in the center of the hole was a tiny little reflection coming off the top of a metal ball.. or antenta top.

Delnorin found himself holding his breath and his jaw tightening as he thought about the situtation.  It looked as if an arial antena has been set up in the attic of the house so that at specific times or needs it could be raised up through the rooftop for sending and receiving radio messages.

Still, Delnorin could not be positive that they worked for the UN snatchers.  It could be possible that they were part of a group of people just scouting and trying to keep in touch with a home-base much like Delnorin does with the Bunker.

It was a crazy world these days.  To hold onto the old rules, laws and morality of civilized life was sometimes a great burden.  You just don't go gunning down people like they do in the apocolyptic movies.  You don't know the entire stories and what's going on at first glance as they always seem to know on the big screen flicks coming out of Hollywood.

It only takes one time putting a slug in a man's chest and watching him bleed out before you determine deep in your heart that you will never do that again unless there is no choice in the matter.

Avoidance, has kept Delnorin alive this long and kept the tally of lives taken by him to a minimum all this time and his prudence and careful nature he prayed would keep him and those he cares for safe for a good while longer.

Still; he needed to know which side these group of people were on.  The road was the most direct and safest road by far to travel in to town from the Bunker and all threats along it needed to be verified and dealt with appropriately.  He would have to wait until after nightfall and after the dog had been brought back inside.

*Modified*: Added lines about scope and binocs not being night-vision.

...........This is the place where you can drop in and discuss anything, topic miscellaneous..........

Okay.

I generally dislike TV programming these days, and am stuck with re-runs of Star Trek & Seinfeld (plus Fox News and my DVD's).

BUT: I like two new shows: "Person of Interest", and "Once Upon a Time".

Does anyone watch those?

We watch "Once Upon a Time"; my friend recently described it as a sort of "fairey tale" for adults, meaning "light fare", and I don't have a problem with that.  It's a good-enough show.

I keep missing "Person of Interest", although I've seen it and it's good, because it's on against something else I watch.

I'm really enjoying Person of Interest.  I look forward to it every week. I'm not even sure why.   ::whatgives::

Ah, yeah, that 's it!

 ::danceban::

My daughter and I were just discussing tv shows and POI in particular.  I said to her what would you do if some stranger said "I'm here to save you."" She said if he looked like Jim Caviezel she'd be okay with that.
