Anytime Republicans try to play the "We've Got One of Those Too!" ethnic pandering game, it ends up biting them in the ass. "Mildly" pro-choice? Well pardon the analogy, but isn't that like being mildly pregnant?

Hey, if politics is gonna boil down to identity politics (puke) you can't do much better than a smart black chick.

That said, I've always admired Rice, and in spite of her participation in the Bush administration, I don't see many negatives politically.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

I meant ASIDE FROM, not in spite of. I can't edit from my dumbphone.

I'm coming around to thinking we DO need a "shoot oneself in the head" emoticon.

He/they want "Black woman"?  That's what they'll get; Black.  Woman.  Not patriot, not upholder of the Constitution, not future presidential candidate; someone who looks at issues through the lenses of Black and feminist.

She talks and talks and talks, wordswordswordswords, and either is saying nothing or every word needs careful parsing.

But she IS clean and articulate. And since she's a woman, "poised" would be a good adjective.

I bet even Harry Reid would agree.

This is a Ruling Class nomination, period.

Having said that I am understandably against it.

Also by that logic it probably means the choice is likely.

Confidence?  Hope?  Enthusiasm?  Impact?

As much as I admire Dr. Rice, she is simply Colon Powell with a vagina . . .

I get your point in posting the video Pan. But I think that a fair look at Rice's comment must also note that in the days and weeks after November 4th 2008, Republicans and conservatives in the public eye were tripping over themselves in a mad rush to say what a wonderful thing it was that the American people elected a Black man. I found it sickening from all of them, not just Rice. And not because he's Black, but because skin color shouldn't matter, and I knew who he was.
